That is an INCREDIBLY STUPID idea.

Pressurized gas containers tend to fly in random directions when they rupture, and/or throw metal shrapnel everywhere.

DO NOT TRY THIS INCREDIBLY STUPID IDEA, YOU CAN EASILY KILL YOURSELF AND IT'S NOT EVEN A VERY GOOD EXPLOSION.

I think you can buy standard RED or GREEN underwater burning fuse, like the kind that they use on M-80's at EDMUND SCIENTIFIC. If they still carry it, it comes in various lengths on spools, like wire does. phoenix77/rob

one scoop KNO3 and one scoop of sugar makes a great cake... I mean thermite starter. Although, I highly recommend against containing thermite or any other kind of flammable material, especially in a metallic or other material that can produce shrapnel!

Nah I would never actually blow up the whole can, my dad nearly lost his head when he was younger from an Exploding mr Sheen can, he actually felt it go past his head, so im not trying that, im just gonna sit some thermite on things in my garden, eg an old computer and let it BURN . Plus theres a few other things I could do with fuse / magnesium that I've always wanted to, but I would never cause damage to any ones property (except my own, the target) I would make sure its clear of anything that can be damaged, except the target.

If you want a big BOOM with little to no danger to yourself and others use an oxy acetylene set.  Put on the cutting tip, light the torch, feed the oxygen into it to get the hottest flame you can without putting it out, then stub out the flame on the ground, put a balloon over the tip and fill it to about 3/4 full, light with a match on a LONG stick, fuse or whatever.  

Be warned, do not underestimate the size of the bang or the shockwave that will hit you in the chest and rattle your neighbours windows.  Being contained in a balloon it is alot safer than explosives contained in plastic or metal, as far as explosions go anyway, because there is no shrapnel to speak of.  However, obviously you wouldn't want it going off in your face or near your ears.

Just buy magnesium ribbon. You can light it with a lighter and it will light thermite. Cheap and easy

Not exactly, you have to ball mill it for a couple of hours and then grate it with a few percent dextrin for good black powder. Also plain old carbon won't work, the impurities in certain charcoals are what make black powder good, charcoals like Paulownia, Willow, and White Pine will make good BP while charcoals like Oak and Apple will make much slower burning BP. In fireworks you don't want your BP too fast or you could destroy your aerial shells and be left with a loud starmine.

thermite in a tincan can be lit with a railgun slug... shot through the tincan.... the tincan was not pierced :p it just melted through

ALSO dangerous idea = BEERCAN MORTAR pack some explosives at the bottom of a tube ( must fit beer can very tight) and then put a pressure cap at the top of the charge.. make a remote release ( you do not what the tube blowing on you) then drop it in and lol

Not sure what you're trying to do, but whatever it is be careful :)

My friend once made a grenade out of sparklers and a small aluminium casing. He ended up in hospital with hundreds of stitches when a bit of shrapnel got him in the leg. He was very lucky it wasn't anywhere more vital, like his eyes. The scar goes half way around his leg.

(It was still really cool, but the point is s**t happens).
