Lol, no absinthe made today is hallucinogenic. The reason people hallucinated when absinthe was developed was because they did not properly understand the fermentation process and instead of creating pure ethanol (normal drinking alcohol) they made an impure mix with high levels of toxic methanol in it. Methanol is broken down in to formaldehyde in the liver and causes tons of serious health problems.

Edit: Oh, and the Lucid is good stuff though it is a bit sweeter and rounder in flavor than the other brands I have tried. There is a lot more Anise flavor in Lucid than in most absinthes. I happen to like anise, but I do prefer the stronger wormwood flavored ones.

My stuff was the proper stuff with wormwood, it was called the King of Spirits (I think) this was in 2006 so yeah probably was illegal :(

Except for the sake? You want it warm like a nice hot chocolate, eh? Does it make ya feel all tingly and remind you of home? :p

When the sake is warm /hot it seems to have more bite and flavour ,on other hand obviously if its hot weather cold
from the fridge is great but almost same strength as port so drinking it like normal wine is real quick way to a hangover next day

I prefer a 50/50 of redbull/vodka...no shame.

I don't mind regular JD, but if I had to choose, I wouldn't choose that...I'm still an avid fan of rums and vodkas.

When I was a noob, I'd do 151 shots as it was all my parents stocked (for acne removal on one of our cats). Sometimes I'd add a couple shots of it to fruity V8. This led to a crucial mistake involving me drinking an entire bottle of Crown in 30-40mins and puking blood from the alcohol poisoning. Now I cannot even look at crown without feeling ill. Anything that tastes like it in any way makes me cringe.. Good times.

Never had absinthe, closest I've had is sambucca..

As far as cold sake..what? I personally think it tastes like garbage chilled. Warm though, or at least room temp, is much better in my opinion. Drank most of a bottle of it last time I made lo mein.

As far has Honey Jack is concerned....

I've tried a lot of scotches, and have settled on this one - drink it almost exclusively when not drinking beer. Occasionally I'll have a Glenlivet instead.

mmm, I'll have the 18.
I also like the ardbeg 10, but the laphroaig is what I would stick with most of the time.

Craft beers. Picture of 1/2 of the keg room of a local bar.

Favorite go to beers are probably Dog Fish Head 60 minute and Sierra Nevada IPA.

So I realize this is a bit of a necropost, but where better to ask a question about drinking, than in a thread about it?

I'm curious, have you guys noticed any differences in how you handle alcohol, as you age, or as you go through periods of not drinking much at all?

While through most of my twenties (and earlier) I've been a somewhat heavy binge drinker (as binge drinking is defined by more than 5 drinks per night?).

It was not uncommon for me to have 10-20 drinks in a night.

Now, after barely drinking anything over the summer, I find myself in an odd situation.

I'm feeling slightly buzzed off of 2-3 drinks. In the past it would take me 6+ to reach the same point.

I don't mean drunk... I can probably pass every sobriety test known to men... and the ones I'd fail I wouldn't pass sober to begin with.

So any similar experiences with changes in tolerance?

Not so much a change in tolerance but I find myself hung over to the point where I cant get out of bed the next day after 1 beer. If I drink I have to finish the night with at least a gallon of water and twice the recommended dosage of acetaminophen to feel "well" the next day. I used to be able to finish a handle by myself and go for a run in the morning.

I have yet to experience the dreaded two day hangover, but I have also noticed that I don't bounce back as quickly as I used to, which is kind of annoying.

Part of what I find disturbing is I went out for drinks after work friday. Had 7 drinks in total. Far from a large amount for me.

Yesterday just plain sucked :(

I'm almost 29. Guess it's downhill from here

Edit: My personal hangover approach is to down a 32oz bottle of gatorade, along with an Alieve, 4 capsules of fish oil, 2 multivitamins, and one pill of potassium.

Generally works very well, when I remember to actually do it. Just tons of water also helps, but not as well.
