I'm also surprised nobody has mentioned Europa Report.

I didn't see anyone say I am Legend either. Though most people I talk to don't like it. I enjoyed it.

Given the recent release... anyone seen the new Ghostbusters? I've seen the trailers, and will be skipping it. Reviews are also pretty bad.

Thanks for someone else finally mentioning Sunshine (FML). Can't believe there isn't anyone else mentioning it. Hidden gem if you ask me and modern.
Looking again at what everyone has listed I can say I've seen most.
Yes, the fan 4 remake was terrible. Couldn't believe it was that bad.
I am REALLY looking forward to the new Star Trek movie. Own all of them on blu. No interest at all in the new ghostbusters.
As far as the great movie Close encounters goes there are actually a few different versions out there that most people don't know about. The blu-Ray 30th anniversary edition is stunning.

Sunshine is smart, has some incredibly beautifully rendered scenes, and awesome soundtrack. Even the directors commentary is entertaining to listen to.

I think one of the best SciFi movies of all time and a must see by anyone who claims to be a fan is "Forbidden Planet", circa 1956. It is in color and the special effects blow away many from the 1990s. It was done, in part, with the help of Disney. It starred Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Walter Pidgeon and many actors that became famous later in 1960s TV. It spawned the Robby the Robot craze that sold many toys emulating the character. If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor and try to find it.

paul1598419: Agree 100% great movie the laboratory of the Krell, a highly advanced native race that mysteriously died out suddenly 200,000 years before. Great stuff---I could use some Krell metal lol

The original "The Day The Earth Stood Still" circa 1951 was another a great one from that era also

Yes, that is a good one too. It's been remade several times, but the original is still great. Forbidden Planet is still, by far my favorite though. For 1956 the special effects are dazzling. The story and script are excellent. Much better than a lot of crap that has come since.

Rental is worth it if you want things HD, or 4k, and simple. Otherwise can find 720p streams free easily for most movies.

Depends on the movie i guess, with scifi classics there are usually a lot of people seeding those on torrents as well.

As for the best of movies in the 2000s i miss things like Elysium or District 9 on those. Blomkap is a pretty good director and writer, perhaps not that wellknown in america due to his south african background.

Huge SciFi/Fantasy movie nut here. I'm at work so I am not going to go into lengthy reviews and trailers, I will try to break them up by space/aliens vs. earthy fantasy movies.

My absolute favs are:

Space/aliens SciFi:

Dune

All the Star Trek TNG movies ( I love Picard ) followed by TOS ones

Star Wars 4,5,6,7 (we don't talk about 1,2,3)

JJ Abrams TOS Reboot/Re-imagined movies, 1,2,3.

Signs

Alien

Aliens

Alien Resurrection

AVP

Fifth Element

Contact

Prometheus

The Abyss

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Flight of the Navigator

Fire in the Sky

Predator

The Last Starfighter

Independence Day

And as for Fantasy(non space/aliens):

LOTR 1,2,3

Jurassic Park

Terminator 2

Jaws

12 monkeys

Mortal Kombat

Warcraft (Loved it, huge WoW fan)

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Blade Runner

I won't add any anime, I feel that should have it's own anime category, but I do watch and love a lot of it.

Theres probably more that I am forgetting, but that will have to do
