I didn't think it had enough lift to get a human airborne, but I guess it does. They need to add a small cockpit so the pilot can fly it. Would be so much more awesome than those small gas powered helicopters from many years ago.

It would be a good idea to put some type of guarding around those blades, this isn't your average toy drone, this thing could take an arm or a head off without even hesitating!

I have seen prototypes and testers that do work. You can fast forward through these or watch, there are many concepts but also a few real companies that are serious about it.

It's a matter of FAA regs I'm sure more than anything.

Yeah, that's Casey Neistat, world famous YouTuber.
I've watch many of his drone clips but when I saw this one last year it blew me away.
Apart from the fact that he flew from a drone, the scenery is to die for man !!
Thanks for sharing this one Red, nice to see it again.
+rep when I can.

This is what winter looks like here in Yellowknife.

I for one am thankful for global warming. In 20 years it may be a tropical paradise here!

When in Alaska I thought the same thing, global warming? We need it! Now I'm in Iraq and global warming, yikes!

Yeah, I'm glad I'm not there, I couldn't deal with that sort of heat, never mind all the other stuff going on. It works both ways though, when winter comes here I think "why the hell did the Aboriginal people ever decide to live here!?". Any white explorers that arrived here in the summer must have been in for a real shock come winter.

It got to 32°C here last summer and it was horrendous. I had a few drinks and cycled downtown to the Aboriginal Day events and I thought I was going to die, seriously, I almost called an ambulance for myself (smoking a pack a day probably didn't help). Walked home, left the bike there, came back the next day with the truck to collect it.

I see people talking about these places that get insane sorts of heat and it always reminds me of this:

Besides the -39 deg C... It looks just like where I live
in the winter but with more snow and only -25 dec C...:p

Although we also have freezing rain on a good day.

@RB...
Love watching new flying rotorcraft technologies
emerge. Saw a guy last year with.. IIRC... ~36 Hobby
style Brushless motors/batteries and a lawn chair in
the middle get lift in his backyard.

That was filmed over here in Lapland.. It's kind a funny, because some years ago Finnish goverment annonced that they wanted that Finland should set its airspace free for UAV's / drones.
They hoped that Finland would be come leading country of drone technology, but then this video hit on the youtube and there was huge fuzz around it and goverment took their words back...
I can't remember how many felonies was accused on this guy and I think if he ever enter this country he will be arrested..

You got me looking on Youtube for lawn chair flights, found some using balloons and some using electric as well as gasoline powered propellers, but thought this interesting too. It's a camera sent up to 90,000 feet on a balloon:

Loved that video, to the edge of space on a Sunday morning!

Alaskan, your balloon video and your last comment reminded me of this guy from a few years ago (2012). I had forgotten that he went up to ~128,000ft. in his attempt, definitely the edge of space!

It amazing there is still enough atmosphere to get a balloon to take anything that high. Definitely couldn't breath up there unassisted. Even at five miles up, there isn't enough O2 to keep you conscious.

Yeah he's also been investigated by the FAA for flying his drones in NY city.
He's a crazy dude and he's got a huge following.
I did enjoy his drone vids though but I think because he is so well known that he's attracted the attention of the Authorities.
He does appeal to my inner rebel though.
