It looks like an updated version of a video game I played 20 years ago called R-Type, very similar.

Yea, I put a lot of quarters in that machine on a working vacation back in 89, DAM it's closer to 30 years....where has my life gone, lol.

It was very additive at the time, I remember you could pick up the automatic fortifications and you had a super weapon button ( it had to recharge ), a fire and a missile button I think. Then a joystick to drive.

Later PC games I played with the keyboard and a trackball mouse, seems like they got the shooting on the run calibrated in pretty good, a moving shooter is harder to hit, but I love to camp out, I'm a sniper at heart.

I have not played in a long time, Unreal Tournament ( Game of the year ) had an programmers pack where you could build your own arenas, that's how long it's been for me.....now you wear the VR goggles don't you?

They both look kind of like a rip off of the game "asteroids" from the 1970s. The graphics are a bit slicker, but the game is essentially the same. I guess everything old gets to be new again.

More Jellyfish Lasers ?

"asteroids" ? What ? Not even close, R-Type is a side scroller, asteroids is a multi-directional shooter.......

How about this one ? Staying on theme...... lol

The modern games such as FPS games, unlike the 2 dimensional asteroids, actually immerse the player, the players natural fight or flight instinct is triggered as he/she becomes part of the game, after a while you feel connected to the keyboard, well the 5 keys your left hand uses to pan or move while you pan or move with the mouse, this way you can run and turn while tracking another real player that you are targeting and they are targeting you, and their team is coming around to flank you.

Capture the flag is fun, but I like the every man for himself mode, it stimulates that other side of your psych and lets you live it for a while, it's thrilling to hunt and kill people who are hunting you and it feels real enough to get a lot of monitors smashed by pumped/angry players, but you know in your subconscious that you are not really going to die, but you are constantly feeling like it's real and it is a lot of fun, it's also a military training tool in some cases I'm sure, but most people know the difference when the game is over, some fraction of a percent of the people who play may confuse reality with play time, but they were headed for trouble anyway, for the rest of us it's a chance to immerse ourselves into our most primal instinct, survival, and it can be quite thrilling.

This is old as hell but it was one of my favorite maps in UT from long ago.
