Hello all TF2 players,
I recently purchased a 16 man public Team Fortress 2 server with a 66 tickrate along with a 15 man ventrillo server. I did this to see what the turnout would be as gaming is a way to have fun and learn about other people. The server is based in Dallas, Texas as it was the closest to the center of the U.S. as possible. There may be slower connections for EU users, but this can be solved by a second server if there is enough interest.
This Server is not currently affiliated at all with Laser Pointer Forums except the shared userbase.

The TF2 Server
To get Team Fortress 2 go to Team Fortress 2 on Steam or purchase The Orange Box at your local electronics store.
This server will not be running mods or custom maps unless by popular demand. Drop a comment about your favorite map/type rotation.
Server Information
Name- [LPF] LaserPointerForums.com (Can be changed if you have a better name)
Server IP- 68.232.163.166

The Vent Server
First off Ventrilo is a voice chat program that runs in the background, so grab your mic and come to chat. The Ventrilo Server is for anyone gamer or non-gamer and is currently a 15 person server. Come over and chat about lasers or whatever you feel like. This will also be used for the people playing TF2. If there is enough interest and there are over 15 people regularly this can be upgraded.
To download Ventrilo for PC or Mac go to - Ventrilo - Download - and click on your link.
Once downloaded to setup go to the arrow that looks like -> next to the username drop down box and enter your LPF username.
Then go to the -> next to the dropdown box for server.
Click new enter LPF then for the hostname or IP type: vent3.gameservers.com
Then for the port type: 4540
Then simply hit ok and press connect.
The default key to talk is CTRL to change this go to setup and click in the push to talk box.

This server would not have been possible without Charliebruce and DJNY creating interest in this topic. Go to Charliebruce's thread at http://laserpointerforums.com/f58/lpf-game-server-source-games-52958.html to give your opinion on an EU server.

Thanks for looking,
Lane

Nice! I got TF2 bought by a friend for my birthday but due to this year's terribly amazing amount of exams and work to turn in, I haven't played once since February. Hopefully I'll make some time one day to BONK YOUR DISPENSERS!!!!!!!!

A typical map rotation would be :

Dustbowl
Badwater/Goldrush
2Fort/Well
Hightower/Thunder Mountain

That provides a good balance and is what my regular server runs.

Another option would be to disable the respawn timer, however, you'll have to see what people think of it.

Also- all LPF server regulars- add the |LPF| tag to your Steam name, and show some team pride!

We can't use the Wrangler in Australia. It's got a visible beam in daylight, and is handheld, so it's >1mW, right?

Cool!

+1

However 10-slot is a little low, you should remove respawntimes to at least have a little higher intensity level :)

The reason I did 10 man was because I don't know how many people will or can play on it, but it can be easily upgraded to as many as we need. :)

16-player or 24-player is optimal. 10-player on a map like Dustbowl or Badwater is just dull. Not enough action.

Remove the respawn timer- it makes for more hectic games.

I say just lower respawn times ;) I bought TF2 over the july 4th steam sale and got addicted. Played basically non-stop for about a week and a half then had to start working and haven't played since. Even so, I'll make sure to hit this server up, probably tonight after work even :D

Also why private? I doubt there will ever be enough LPF members online at the same time to make it interesting.

Edit: Upgraded to 16 man public.
Enjoy and if you like click on the clan pay link,

Sweet! How about we plan a date and time for a TF2 meet?

Thanks,

Ooh, average of 217 ping for this server. Much better.

I guess I'll be joining you guys once The Resurrection happens?

Also, is it a go-ahead with |LPF| tags at the front/end of their Steam name for all LPF members who play on the server?

Would anyone here be interested in an Asia/Australia server?
Do you have to ask :p . I've been thinking of hiring a server, but I doubt I will get around to it. I will definitely check out the possibility.

Pretty much any day (but I guess it's the times that actually come into play international-wise).
I think I have the times I can play in CST (USA) correctly:
CST: 7pm-7am on Fridays and Saturdays, and some time in between 11pm-3am any other day.
AEST: 12pm-12am on Fridays and Satudays, and some time in between 4pm-8pm any other day.

Oh, also I got somewhere in between 200ms and 250ms ping, which is alright. I actually spent 5min on there last week. No one was on so I just practiced some engi sentry rocket jumping lol.

I don't as of yet know what times I'll be available, that's a problem. I'll try to get on whenever I can.

@Byrnz- you has the Wrangler? Make sure Customs doesn't take your sentry on the way out! :D

LOL!
I was using it on 2Fort (daylight) and noticed the visible laser beam straight away; if it's THAT visible you should be able to burn/blind your enemies
Perhaps the blue engi's wrangler has an XJ-A9000 445nm diode in it
