Like Alaskan, I find the topic of Astronomy and space quite interesting. There is so much to see out there, and the fact that compared to the vastness of space we are almost nothing is amazing!

Anyway, I was looking up some YouTube space travel and found some pretty neat comments below a video. '

One in particular went as follows: "If we were ever visited by aliens and saw how humans behave I wouldn't give them access to advance technology so they can harm themselves or the galaxy".

Now, this is true. Look how humans behave, how, and I hate to say it the majority of people just don't use their heads and act stupid. If we ever hope to achieve space travel it sure isn't going to be with the methods we are using right now, the corruption, bullying, lack of empathy and respect which is severely lacking in today's day & age.

I was born in 1996, hopefully before I die I'll be able to see a better species, which has access to space travel and if for example I wanted to hop to Mars to shine my lasers, I'd just need to pay for a $5 ship ride :D

Thoughts? Please, I love topics like these and what people think of the future of humans.

I believe humanity needs a genetic update, else we are bound to continue along the same line of destruction we have continued to do for all of recorded history and prior to it, I am sure. Education might work, maybe, if we had a one world government but I suspect a one world government will just cause greater corruption at the top than we have now, perhaps causing individuals to have far less freedom than we have now, which is a joke, as we are slaves to our government as it is, the real tax rate means we work more for the government than we work for ourselves.

Here's something a bit off topic, but which does touch upon some of your thoughts hap, you might find this interesting:

Thanks for posting Alaskan!

Agreed. I just simply don't understand why so many people focus on money instead of helping one another? Is it just me? I know there are tons of good people out there, but there is an overwhelming majority of corrupt, stupid people(and I hate to say it). Imagine how far humans could have gone in 2015.... *sigh*

Bens results showed that students were more likely to recall words in the present if they memorized hem in the future.

NOW because we can not travel back in time the only way to conduct this test is with the same set of words and use more than one group of students.

OR

Use a different set of words if the same group of students.

I would like to know how many groups of students if the same word set was used that BENS test was conducted with, unless it was done with a large number of groups the result could be lost in the noise. Also how much more likely were the group of students to recall words if they studied them in the future? If a different word set was used then just 1 odd ball word could corrupt the study.....I need to see more details, I will look it up even, but time as far as we know only moves in 1 direction, actually time is just a measure of change, and we know time moves forward at different rates, just the velocity of our satellites have to be factored in to GPS calculations to get an accurate position on Earth because of velocity related time dilation. BUT time never moves backwards.

As for there being other life in our universe I don't see how there couldn't be, but we are separated by vast time and distance.

Almost anything is possible in the future, except traveling back in time.
Man and machine may be integrated but in time with genetic engineering and nano technology we wont need mechanical body parts, we will modify our own biologic machines, we will create super humans, cure all disease, and become immortal. But 1st we must get control and evolve past our greatest hurdle that is ironically our greatest motivator, human greed.

RedCB, look into Dean Radin's work too, something he calls presentiment. There are plenty of so called skeptics who bash his work, but if you carefully study it, I don't see why.

Edit: Hap, I understand why people focus on money, you can get just about anything you want with it, keeping yourself out of the cold and well fed. The problem is due to individuality, from birth we are set up to look out for ourselves first, and rightly so. It's a survival mechanism, but those who also value the survival of their brothers and sisters are part of that survival mechanism too, we have survived as a species due to our ability to be selfish as well as unselfish at times too. There is a strange contradiction in humanity, when things are going well lots of people tend to be more selfish, when things are going bad, a lot of people are more giving. Now, if it realllly gets bad, I think the coin might just flip to the other side again to where we are capable of eating others to survive.

We are a beautiful species on a wonderful planet but we sure do make a lot of bad decisions and most of the time it is driven by greed, power, fear and money.

This is one of my favorites = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLYorVnA44U

I have said this many times, advanced species probably don't even want to bother with us. Such as we don't bother with slugs.

Its an awesome sight to see the earth from space but hard to imagine all the violence, deaths, drug dealing, wars, poverty, etc, going on in this beautiful sight. Its amazing how way ahead of his times was Gene Roddenburys vision. Not only was his time theory most likely the most accurate, he dates the Star Trek series in around 2250 when other scifiers always seamed to vision it at the year 2000 but saw are world countrys unified together as one against others. This is my gibberious 2 cents:whistle:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY DID YOU EVEN POST THAT LINK?!!!!!! :wtf::scared::eek: No one should be thinking such things! Maybe they will call an exterminator when they find us! And we are far from a beautiful species on a wonderful planet!!!!!!

Have you seen where a person sustains a head injury and can suddenly do complex math in an instant, or compose music they have no training in, or make works or art without having ever being trained in the basic principals of drawing/painting.

Just imagine when we can genetically alter our brains to use more than the fraction we do right now, we don't even use all of what we have, not even 1/4 of it, something like 10%

This is why the studious Chinese young men and women who exercise their brains in school for years as they grow can hack our most complex encryption like it was a joke, this is just the slow way of development, imagine when we can engineer genius into the code of unborn children, when we can upgrade ourselves.

One day a matrix like interface could exist where we can upload years of learning into an engineered superior biologic operating system......did it just hit you.....that's right, the greedy control mongers will want control of it, a backdoor so they can make servants of us, and that's why we are slow to advance, we don't work for a common cause, for the good of man, we work mostly for greed and our hand full of representatives who tax us for over half our output and then squander much of it, plus all they can borrow and steal. We want freedom, but we need unity, sadly we have lost our balance, we have actually been unbalanced in order to be exploited by greed.

We are going to have to understand ourselves and change our entire way of thinking, look at Japan and how far they advanced by working for the good of community, and China, they have put in the effort and will not be denied.

Have we not learned histories lessons, look at all the time wasted during the dark ages, all greed, human suffering because of a few wanting control.

Even today we are so divided in what drives us.

China had an opium epidemic, their leaders knew it was a hard problem to fix, so they killed a bunch of addicted people, but they quickly and effectively solved their problem, a problem some say the British inflicted to control them.

Do you think China will allow brainwashed from birth people who can be activated to commit acts of terrorism into their country?
Yes 2-3% of Chinese are Muslim but they would be exterminated if they got out of control.

We don't even have the united will to do what's needed to advance, sure there are bright young people doing great things in America, but greedy drug companies will ruin them for a profit, feed them poison that will stop them cold in their tracks and absolutely ruin them just for a profit.

There are so many roadblocks in our evolution, it is a complex problem and smarter people than us have thought about this, it will be much easier to start over with a working system than fix the divided, set in their ways masses of the world.

We very well may see a mass cleansing, China is willing to lose a large part of their population to win, Chinese are physically fit and mentally willing.
Have you seen their military parades, row after row of young women with rifles marching in step. Their technology is exploding, they will eclipse us at the current rate things are going very soon.

If China builds the perfect neutron bomb they may claim the Earth.....they are working on it, we have a counterproductive government of thieves, they have a working system that is rapidly advancing.

We don't have time to waste, if we are going to be part of this fantastic future we had better get out stuff together and fast.

Slowly but surely, the earth is becoming more and more civilized.

Its no where near perfect, but, on average, you'd rather be born when you were, than 5,000 years ago.

And you'd have rather been born 5,000 years ago than 100,000 years ago...and so forth.

Life went from extremely harsh, where starvation and disease was the most common cause of death, woman commonly died in childbirth, and life was a daily fight to not die...to the same, but progressively less so.

Some people are still eaten by tigers, sure, but, statistically, far fewer over time.

Some people still starve to death, but, statistically, far fewer over time, and so forth.

If we look at how we evolved, and the compromises made, sure, some of the compromises are mind mindbogglingly stupid compared to what we might have designed from scratch...but, we are stuck with the process.

If we genetically engineer people to better survive space travel for example, we may compromise their ability to survive wherever they land.

We don't yet understand all of our genetic makeup....we are still uncovering its secrets and intricacies.

If we for example stabilize our genome to prevent cosmic radiation related mutations/cancer, etc, we might then render us less able to adapt to future changes in environment.

One day, perhaps we'll have unraveled the entire mechanism, and know what does what...and be able to make select changes w/o adverse consequences.

On the flip side, assuming there are still humans here in 3-4 billion years or so (The dinosaurs made it a few hundred million years, and that's pretty good, but not billions), we WILL go extinct if we have not left earth yet.

So, the earth will be bye bye in a few billion years, from any combo of the sun expanding and frying us, to the inner core cooling enough to stop producing a strong protective magnetic shield, or maybe another huge impact, zombies, etc...

...so we need to get out of Dodge regardless.

I understand cancer needs both the mutation of the p53 gene and the presence of telomerase to make cancer cells immortal so they can divide without wearing down the cells DNA and becoming beguine.

So the human immortality thing is not simple, many systems have different challenges, but in time it will be possible.

As for our future with the middle east going hot and antibiotic resistant strains of nasty on the rise, I don't know if today is better than say 30 years ago, yes we have better cheaper lasers, but the country I grew up in had a lot more hope of a bright future and other than the cold war we felt secure and had a good standard of living, our economy was not in the peril it faces today, America controlled most of the worlds wealth 30 years ago. Today...No.

@ Pi,

You are the only one talking about an exterminator. I did not say or suggest it.
I simply said that = advanced species probably don't even want to bother with us.
Therefore the result is being left alone.

This is a wonderful and beautiful world as a whole, sure there are weather and natural disasters and so on. Mother nature can be both beautiful and a stone cold killer.

Depends on where you find your moral bedrock, the statement can easily be reversed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these probablies are totally made up.

IMO if there is ET life out there capable of visiting Earth, their culture would decide whether they contact humans or not, and how could we possibly assign a probability to that?

Do we leave the bugs alone? No, if they live somewhere we want to live, we exterminate them. We take some samples and dissect them and slice them up and prepare slides to look at them under a microscope. We take more of them and put them in an ant farm or something like that to study and observe them. We even eat some of them. I was talking to my brother in NYC last night and he was telling me in Columbia they eat chocolate covered ants, you can buy them in NYC but they are very expensive but don't cost much in Columbia (his wife is Colombian and they have traveled there) they even have something like a Nestle Crunch Bar except with ants in it. There is some country I forgot where but they eat fried locusts and sell them real cheap like bags of popcorn. In oriental food stores you can buy canned silkworm pupa, and of course you know about escargot. Did you ever see the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man"?

I am not saying any of this is likely, in fact I am all in favor of alien contact, let's take our chances and see what happens when the time comes, but I don't like that video. Neil deGrasse Tyson may be a brilliant astrophysicist but he shouldn't encourage people to think like that. If he is correct, your assumption that we would be left alone is wrong.

I know there are tons of good people out there, but there is an overwhelming majority of corrupt, stupid people(and I hate to say it). Imagine how far humans could have gone in 2015.... *sigh*-Alex

Everything is possible in imagination---not so in the real world. $5 for a cup of coffee is reality , a $5 ride to Mars is never going to be.
Money exchanged for goods and services is people helping other people all day long without having to have "personal" baggage attached to the relationship. What do you imagine trade/exchange of money is if not people helping people?
Humans have not changed much in the last 3500 years and there is no indication it is ever going to be any different.

Your recurring/repeated posts about people helping others sounds like typical teenage fears about growing up and having to be an adult in an adult world where individual responsibility for yourself and then later other responsibilities on your own without help is essential.

How are you going to "help" others unless you can help youself. Is all part of growing up and becoming an adult. Even under best circumstances nobody can be anyone else and ability to "help" and time for same is limited.

From good article Why People Fear Growing Up and Functioning as Adults.
"1. Symbolic separation from parents and other individuals who have offered some sense of security. This occurs as we mature, form a new and different identity, choose our own path in life and establish new relationships. These types of separation experiences can arouse a sense of loss related and fear. When we are anxious or frightened, we tend to reconnect to dependency bonds."

"2. Preference for fantasy as a defense mechanism over reality considerations. Painful events in childhood often lead to suppression, dissociation and varying degrees of retreat into fantasy processes. These habit patterns become addictive and long lasting."

"3. The threat of feeling one’s aloneness. Knowing ourselves as independent, authentic adults makes us acutely aware of painful existential issues. In addition, there is a fear of being different or standing out from the crowd. This is related to the primitive evolutionarily based threat of being separated or ostracized from the tribe, which is emotionally equivalent to being left to die."
See article: Why Are People Afraid to Grow Up?

Growing up and emotional maturity allows you to take charge of your life. You have your own vision for your life and your own ambition for success. Focusing on realising your vision, you can create a happy, healthy life where you respect yourself and others. When you develop emotional maturity, life becomes a joy rather than a chore. Your happiness and fulfilment are in your hands. To be mature is to have knowledge and experience about the way the world works, and to have adapted accordingly.

Edit: Hap, I understand why people focus on money, you can get just about anything you want with it, keeping yourself out of the cold and well fed. The problem is due to individuality, from birth we are set up to look out for ourselves first, and rightly so. Excellent poimts!--- One man's meat, is another man's person ~ Old Cannibal Saying, is pretty much a metaphor for how things are today for the most part.. Social priorities are what they are for real and valid reasons.

Depends on where you find your moral bedrock, the statement can easily be reversed.

"I just simply don't understand why so many people focus on helping one another instead of money?"

To the point, point! Money and exchange of money for goods and services is people helping people all over the world every day---without all the personal and emptional baggage associated. Doing something of value to other people is doing something worth money.
People care about what other people do in the real world of everyday llife--- what they say or think about it means little if at all to other people, generally and functionally speaking.
