When you mix lye and water it get really hot.If you give it vinager it nurilizes it and gets cold again.

Acids always try to "give away" Hydrogen ions as they react with something. Lye (aka sodium hydroxide) is a base. Bases behave somewhat similarly to acids (corrosive properties) but they contain a hydroxide group (OH). When an acid and a base are mixed together, the hydrogens from the acid and the OH from the base form HOH, H2O or simply water. This neutralizes both the acid and the base...
