Any pyrotechnics made in the USA will not make it past customs. Apparently, the Canadian regulations are different and don't allow certain foreign fireworks to be imported... Oxidizing agents(potassium nitrate/perchlorate/chlorate) will not make it past the border either.

OH NOES!!!!!! :'(

So does anyone know a good pyro shop either in Canada, or a website located in Canada?

Pottassium nitrate b.p is typically labeled as saltpeter. I was buying it from my local drugstore at 10 years old in Canada. It is used for population control on farms as it causes impotence. They used to add it tob mashed potatoes in prisons back in the day, before the miracle of soap on a rope ;) And is also used by home brewers as a preservative for beer. Mix 50/50 with sugar and you get a nice smokebomb :)

Unfortunatly, those "good ole days" are now gone. You won't find any saltpeter at drugstores anymore... Your best bet is in the herbicide section of home depot. They should sell "grants stump remover/killer" or "dragon stump remover". This stuff is mostly potassium nitrate.

can you light it with a blow torch
No, but there are a bunch of things that you can light it with though. KMnO4/Glycerin works well, starter mix (that way you can use just regular fuse to light the starter) and even Mg ribbon (I don't really like this method though, goes out too easily)

You just pour the glycerin on the KMnO4 and it lights after a few seconds.[/quote]
Like this?

Yeah those are the chemicals, you could probably get them somewhere else cheaper though. You can get glycerin from the pharmacy pretty cheap, but the permanganate you'll have to get off the internet.

For a fun effect, mix up a quarter of a pound of that mixture in an open plastic bottle and stand back. It makes a cool volcano like effect, and first it starts violently bubbling and the molten stuff flies everywhere, then the main stuff lights and flaming glycerin goes everywhere. By then the stuff that shot out before it lit light on fire lights while the main mass of it is burning hot, and after a couple of seconds the bottle is vaporized. It is awesome to do and it won't give you cancer like the dichromate volcano.

You aren't recommended to use that stuff with aluminum...
(read the safety section)

Edit: But it sounds like it would make a good bang.

If you're gonna be playing around with lye, make sure you have some vinegar around. I personally prefer nitric acid when it comes to burning stuff...

Aren't you a bit young to be watching fight club? :-?

What exactly does vinegar and lye do?

It's funny that you're asking him that in a time when girls give it up at thirteen. ;D
How sad...
