What I find really funny about all this as a Muslim is that burning a Qur'an is actually the correct way of disposing of a damaged/unwanted copy. I don't think there was ever any doubt that it is within his rights of freedom of speech/expression to do what he had suggested, but maybe sometimes a little common sense could come into play. We don't always have to do things that were are technically allowed to. I mean I may have the right to march around today on 9/11 with an Al Qaeda flag (OBVIOUSLY I do not support them, just an example here) and troll people, but I would never do this out of respect for myself and others around me. Looks he called it off after all, so he came to his senses, maybe he'll actually read one of those Qur'ans how instead of burning them . :D

Anyway, back on topic, you'll find the link to the petition in my signature. Latest news on Sakineh from Wiki:

Hey Jerry, I totally agree and will sign the petition.

On a similar subject and not to be inflammatory but some in the US are not that far from similar levels of bigotry. Koran burning? Is that really going to help anyone?

Here's the link in Rev2007's sig -

I signed it a while back when I first saw it in Simon's
Sig... and I signed another petition being sent to the
most senior clerics in Iran...

If she is guilty of something then let justice prevail...
but Stoning is Cruel and Unusual punishment for and by
civilized intelligent humans....

Maybe he accomplished the goal of instigating discussion without endangering himself or others

Maybe he just got scared :p

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- Pure conjecture -- I have NOT read his position or explanation. I've been busy with the house :(

As a Canadian, I am kind of on the side watching all of this.
While today is the anniversary of the trade center attacks,
and the attack on the Pentagon, I don't get why the country
of origin to these attacks are so intolerant to a display of protest
for lack of a better term...

I am not trying to voice any political view here, but the USA has its
history of book burnings in the past, and I would consider it to be much
more peaceful than hijacking jumbo jets and killing a few thousand..

I just read an article on a local news station that 'death to America' is
once again being chanted in the streets (not sure if it ever stopped),
but these guys need to chill a bit.

Since I was a kid. ive seen foreign overseas countries burning the American
flag and pictures of the president at that time, etc.

Here is the article I just read through, you'd figure on a day such as this
which was also the 'planned' date of the 'book burning' they would display some
sort of tolerance.

Its as if the USA is expected to shut up, not voice their opinions and accept
whatever they deem fit.

After 9/11, I didn't see ONE imom anywhere standup in protest of the travisty and torture leveled by the terriorists. Now with proposed book burning, they threaten more terriorism on US.

Should WE do the same when they burn our flag? Most of the world society has advanced since the crusades age. Where are "they" now?

All I can add after reading that news article is that Stoning
a half buried woman to death is as the Taliban put it...
"an immoral and stupid crime"... in itself...

Right --- RIGHT --- RIGHT --- After the fact -- they say something like that.
Where were the "good" believers while this happened? Where were the Imoms?
Why didn't the "peaceful" believers step in with their weapons and stop this?
Why are WE dying to give them democracy?

I won't even look at the pictures. Hell is a step away from everyone now.

So this is the thing that starts the Great Tribulation...

Expect to see plenty more of this... and expect religion to be removed entirely very soon

If you have seen the viral youtube video of the stoning of that poor woman and were sickened by the brutality, sign the petition in 2007Revolution's signature. Thanks

I just read it was postponed.

It's foretold in the bible

I'm guessing you are not referring to the reduction of world
conflict...

That would be too easy

In this day and age, i'd have to go with greed being the worst of offenders.

Jay --

There is nothing to worry about. Our society is solid and will survive a "great tribulation" with no problem. We are a country of citizens linked together for the common good. Just look how well hurricane Katrina pulled us all together :-( See how they are rebuilding themselves.
We as armed individuals will survive!!!!!

This from a man who sold 6X Blu-Ray lasers for $600+.

Sorry, but that was the most funniest thing I have ever seen you write.

That's the idea. Once they say "peace and security" "instant destruction will be upon them." It only looks like the reduction of world conflict.

Who said I was worried? The eek smiley? I put that there because I thought it would be a shock to people who just heard me say that the destruction of religion was foretold in the bible.

Like I always say... you're civilized if you own a laser :D
