Umm, as the title states... I was working with a stanly knife when it slipped and sliced a 1cm + deep slice in the bottom part of my thumb :(

I washed it and tightly closed it with 2 band-aids...

Any advice on what I should do? I dont want to lose a finger

Im off to the doc...

Its pretty damn deep :(

Hopfully I wont need surgery/stitches

lets just hope for the best

I was cutting some plywood...I just changed the blade on that dammned knife...I guess if I left the old blade I wouldnt have to go to the doc...

Im pretty sure its either to the bone or a few mm away

Holy cow man, how (why) are you typing right now. haha! Unplug and take your butt to the ER and get someone to look at it if you think you are going to lose a finger.

Umm, yeh, it hurt quite a bit...

@xtrm2rick... They used those alcohol swabs to clean it up and they put the needle right into the wound to numb it... lol, I wont be cutting myself again anytime soon....

those swabs feel nasty right?:p
i had like 6 stitches over my thumbs knuckle :(

i had a trainee helping me with the stitching, she wanted to anesthetize me ( or how the hell you write that XD ) but when she put the syringe in the side of the wound and when she press on the syringe the anesthetic just squirted out of my wound :yabbem: the first thing i though was "just my luck" but everything turned out fine :p

o and good luck healing up:)

Good that you got it treated professionally, I cut my index finger deep a while back and the feeling in it is kind of off. Antibiotic ointment to keep it from getting infected and try not to agitate it. Get well soon! Thumbs are important for building lasers

Glad that you're all in one piece. Those pictures give me the chills  I've cut my fingers pretty deep on several occasions, but not that deep I don't think. :shiver:

As long as it doesn't get infected you'll be fine. Personally I would have just washed it out, applied triple antibiotic and taped it closed.

My left pointer fingers has 4 scars on it, I'm very accident prone:undecided:

To be honest, doesn't look that bad. My definition of bad is skin flapping open and seeing bone and tendon though.

I have had quite a history myself. Lets see.

Most recently I put a drill with a large sharp 1/2 inch bit into my hand.

I stepped on one of those huge 1/4 in thick nails and it went half way through my foot. That one really sucked.

I slid down the hood of a car when I was very young and cut my leg open from a few inches above my knee to my hip on the license plate and I really don't remember it but am told I had my muscle hanging out and dumping blood all over the place.

Landed head first on the sharp corner of a table and split my head open. I am told I had blood squiring out the top of my head with my heartbeat like some bad horror flick.

I cut my index finger to the bone trying to pull a frozen shattered glass water bottle out of the freezer. Ended up with a bunch of glass in the wound and it was not fun having them clean it out.

Had another regular sized nail go into my other index finger and it hit the bone when helping my uncle tear down a barn that was on his property. Hurt like hell.

Put my arm though a plate glass door and damn near slit my wrist. Still have a scar that looks like I tried to kill myself.:wtf:

And to top it all off I put a chainsaw into my leg and wrapped it up with an Ace bandage for a few days until my father saw it bleeding through my pants and made me go to the hospital. It was slightly infected. The nice thing is there really wan no pain as it cut every nerve ending in the area. I still have no feeling there today.:tinfoil:

And this is just the highlight reel.

^^^LMFAO. That's quite a collection of scars you got there.

I also have a nasty burn/cut scar on my left forearm that looks suicidal:eek: Keep thinking about getting a tattoo over it, but don't like tattoos either:(

Some others from the highlight reel. A huge scar on my scalp from a very bad fall on some rocks as a kid, woke up nauseous and with a BAAAD headache. Completely covered over by hair now, so long as I don't go bald:undecided:

Scar on my left cheek from a in improvised bat (giant f*ing stick is more like it) that someone couldn't hold on to while swinging. Once again woke up up with a nasty headache, although I'm told I cursed everyone out before passing out:p

Scarred area on my right thigh from falling through rotten floorboard.

Small stab scar om my right leg, just above the knee.

Scarred left shoulder from a bike fall.

Bunch of smaller scars all over too. Last one was from slicing my left pointer finger a few month back. As I get older I seem to collect fewer scars per year:)

Try explaining two layers of scars... I have claw marks from a cat that went psycho on my left forearm, and a year later a bunch of coals from a bbq on top of that. Usually the reaction I get is something like these smileys::eek::wtf:
