^^ Health care costs in the U.S. is outrageous and keeps getting worse. They need to do something, but Obama care is a joke. I have to pay more to my insurance every year along with the deductibles. Something needs to be done and requiring people to have insurance just doesn't work. Some people or families just can't afford it.
I have a few friends in B.C. that complain about the health care there saying that it takes to long to see a doctor and that you don't get the same doctor every time.

You have another problem in Canada at work that is causing the long wait times. Doctor shortages.
Many Doctors have retired leaving a huge hole in the health care system. When one can make more working in the gas patch than a doctor makes without going through to finish post secondary education.... Logically more people will head to the oil sands and gas patch in Alberta and Northern BC/Alberta.
Anyways I hope the trend will reverse soon.. looks like that may come true.

One of the benefits of living with people who make their academic homes in seven different Harvard departments is that you get some pretty interesting tidbits that you wouldn’t hear otherwise.
My music major roommate, for instance, recently sent an email to our email list:
Just realized this: the music in Rick Perry’s new anti-gay ad is by Aaron Copland, a famous 20th Century American composer…who was an outspoken gay Jew. [Update: the music is not actually by Copland, but is a cheap knock-off of sorts of Copland's Appalachian Spring according to The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross '90.]

Copland also supported the Communist Party in the 1930s.

Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to please everybody, and to not infringe on someone else's rights. Just try eating a cheddar bacon cheeseburger at a mosque or a synagogue if you don't believe me.

IMO, it would be far better to simply keep ALL religion out of public schools.

Hmm, been to three public schools... and that was also basically the case for me.

Also born a jew... still a jew culturally, but I don't care one bit for the religious dogma. I suppose I'm more an agnostic than an atheist.

I agree completely. The problem I have with obamacare is that it's a best a half measure. Obama folded on the biggest check against the atrocious behavior of the insurance companies.

He backed off on having a public, non profit, government run, insurance carrier.

Now we'll have the same old companies, but they will charge more since they have to get through more loopholes before screwing people over.

Idk, it seemed to work fine at my school, of course there are some people that are ultra politically correct and are offended by anything. Those people can never be pleased. Apart from that no one got in each other's hair and there were never any real problems. I am a Muslim and I couldn't care less about what other people are or aren't eating as long as they aren't forcing it on me.

You should try living in Utah and not being Mormon, they just don't leave me alone. I respect what ever religion somebody is, it is there choice. I just wish they would respect my choice of not being Mormon.

Next year I'll be voting for the first time so i've been watching this stuff much more closely than before, and to be very honest it makes me lose more respect for the whole country when I see these insults of people we have trying to run it.

I really like Ron Paul, I wish he was a little better at conveying his message to people who don't fully accept his radical views though...

I think the young don't know this so I'll list the steps that seem to forever repeat...


"We need to have morals"
"We need (insert your religion here) values"
"Those people hate our (freedom, or religion, or race)"
"They are a great threat to our (country's, or families) safety"
"We must defend our self's"
"Fight them there, so we don't have to fight them here"
"War is terrible, but it's the cost of freedom"

Remember all the peaceful attempts to avoid war? ...(So sorry, I don't)... I think it is all too easy for politicians to ignore, that most of the dead from every war, are "non-combatants" or civilians, (sister, brother, grandparents, children, people just like us! Is murdering innocent masses truly the "Cost of freedom"?

"War what is it good for? "Absolutely nothing!"
