If you really want a break then cool, but don't let any piss ants control your moment.

The world is full of bs and inequities, but that's no reason to deny yourself, it won't accomplish anything, if nothing else have fun with it, so what if you have to step over some meadow muffins on your way to the lake, the water feels great so jump on in.

Besides I know you don't want to let the bad guys win, enjoy it in spite of em.

I find that life is a balance, you can't...well shouldn't get too obsessed with any one thing, put that one thing down and enjoy something else.

Alaskan, what are you talking about:tsk: Why are you taking this so hard bud, you did a good thing. What am I missing? Your a good guy and a will say it your also a sensitive guy and thats a good quality to have but going on a LPF hunger strike is ridiculous my friend. Nothing on this forum will ever settle down, this thread will but always there will be others. I liked VG also but "he" took it to far. I think something else that is bugging some of us is there are less overall active members but theres a bunch of us that keep posting new things such as builds and information and yet the way it was before you would get what a normal deserved REP would be for most people and be able to give someone else who is actively contributing a lot. Now if you want to do it you can't or it takes so long to be able to give it that the moment has passed so it doesn't happen.
Alaskan example of trying to find a way to give deserved REP out shouldn't be necessary that's for sure. Bottom line is there's no reason to punish everyone or make these drastic changes because some members feel the need to act out. Surely the mods can do better than this. Clearly we need something like a simple vote on whether to go back to the way it was or keep as they are now where most of us have a bad taste in our mouths.

This post was meant to be added last night at 9 but maintenance was being done so I haven't read the posts since that time yet.

Everyone except 1 member so far has said they would like it to go back, one said somewhere in between like 30.

Me too. No more changing the entire system to deal with individual problems. The only members that benefit from the way it is now are those who already have high REP from what I can see and that can't be allowed to stand. It needs to go back to the way it was first and then we can hash things out if there needs to be some changes.
To Alaskan and others who are disheartened by some of the things that have been going on we need to remember that this is a "hobby" and a "want" rather than a "need". How many members can say they actually "need" a laser. Individually we got into this stuff because of varying reasons and chose to stay with it because we got something worthwhile out of it. I've been disheartened by some of the shenanigans over the few years that I've been here but I am still here. It's a choice to let things get to you when a lot of it wouldn't if you just skipped reading comments from those you don't appreciate and letting yourself get dragged down.
That reminds me of when I used to be a commercial/industrial refrigeration technician driving a lot between customers listening to talk radio. Took some time but I realized that regardless of who I listened to it was geared toward hype to keep you coming back for more. The reality was that all it did was make me angry and once I turned it off a great rush of relief came over me.
The point is a lot of the time we choose to let it in but don't have too. When I first joined Laserbee really got on my nerves with the continuous sell, sell, sell and it was rare for him to contribute any meaningful new information or really helpful comments rather than annoy people. I chose to stop reading his posts and stayed away from him. He eventually shot himself in the foot too many times and was too full of pride to set things thus he took his ball and went home.
As individuals we have the power to control a lot if not all of what pushes our buttons here. I personally choose to stay out of most of the issues or at least take a step back and count the cost before the leap. Trust me, there's an awful lot of things that have gone on here since I joined that made me want to explode on some people but after counting the cost realized it wasn't worth it.
We've all heard of women's intuition right? I think all it is is instead of rushing forward into the fray like most men do women take a moment to count the cost far more than we do and the reason why we end up looking like fools and should have listened to reason first. As men we want to solve problems instantly and be done with it but that doesn't work too well when there's a bunch who all want the same thing but disagree on how it is to be done.

No there were two of us so far, posts #53 and #80, it was me who suggested 30, or something in between the way it was and the way it is now.

We all need to do a better job of policing ourselves without getting Avery and the mods involved. Remember they are people too and will have their own opinions and may not do what you think is the right thing to do. I would remind you all that this isn't a democracy. Every site is controlled by the owner/webmaster and they can do whatever they want, Avery and the mods will do what they think is best. Us taking a poll on the rep system is meaningless, maybe if we ask them they might put it to a vote. We should never be too quick to demand a change, it's too easy to end up with something different than what you wanted or expected.

FWIW I'm for going back to the old system. Wasn't perfect, no system is, but it worked well enough.

Maybe while Avery is at it, we can ask him to add some more green squares though

I disagree, you are obviously rushing to a conclusion without waiting on how the new system is effective. It's more likely that you have nostalgia about the old system and want it back, its understandable but you need to either give the system leeway or wait.

Avery obviously changed the system because people were complaining and just because VG is banned does not change the situation a bit. Give suggestions on how to improve the new system instead of deciding that it's crap, and thats that. Pi is again correct, so give the system some time and give suggestions instead of reverting back to the old system which some think is broken.

Not everything in life is a democracy, so we again need to learn to move with the times instead of looking into tbe past. Therefore I vote that the new system should be tweaked but not reverted.

That's fine? What tweaks do you propose?

The main issue that the new system has brought about is that people can't leave reps when they want to.

Personally I would like to see the following;
-Ability to control how much rep is given or taken away.
-Keep the limits as they are, but on neg reps only.

This forum is certainly not a democracy, but Avery, and the mods will do what they feel is best for the majority, and what the majority would like. To me it seems that in place of any revisions, the majority of people want to revert to the old system.

Hey Alaskan, I see where you are coming from and this forum is more than a bit addictive but focus on the positives of it. I come here to learn, help and touch base with friends. I feel like it is Christmas when I see a new batch of amazing pictures from Bruce or a nice build like yesterday from BowtieGuy. I gain knowledge and insight from the likes of InfinitusEquitas, Pi R Squared, Pman, RedCowboy, GSS, OVNI, Cy, Andrew, Jeffrey and others(Sorry that I did not name the others, you are not forgotten)
I do not feel that a poll is needed as most of us feel that the original setting were much better than the current ones. It is very clear that it is not working because I have not been able to REP+ but two members in the last week or so. It is a shame that we got caught up in the ruckus and now we are not happy with the restrictions Is this a forewarning of things to come with the US government and our lives and freedoms?!?
I went through a brutal time here just a little while ago. Everything was fine and dandy but when I started to sell off some of my laser collection VG lead the horrible witch hunt against for sure. It did not stop there and I was even chased into my messages and attacked with PM's that felt like a gang rape.
The Admins/Mods had to finally step in and clean house Thank God.
Anyways ... Alaskan I hope you do not let them get you down. Keep your chin up as you have a network of friends here that will miss your presence.

Haven't been keeping an eye on this thread much, will get around to reading the whole thing on the weekend. In the mean time here's a few things to keep in mind.

1. The rep system changed because people complained about it. It can be changed back for the same reason.
2. There is very limited functionality on what can be done in the rep system. The features mentioned would be nice to have, but cannot be done in the stock system. Some could be done with plugins, but Avery doesn't like plugins because they could compromise security, which is a well founded concern IMO.
3. (This is an opinion, may not be shared by all mods) Repping old accounts to be able to spread more is a valid use of the system, if any of you have looked at old account you'll notice I used to do it. The limits set are yours to play around in. Only breaking the system (i.e. an exploit to spread more rep than the system would normally allow) would be abuse in my books.

I would like it to go back the way it was but with mabey one change. Kinda what like IE suggested. Mabey vets that have been around quite some time and have say a rep of 500 or 600 can have an option to choose to give half of their points.
