There are some people here that do. There once used to be a thread on it.
I personally am not into it.

I've always wanted to get into that hobby, but it's always been way too expensive, even more-so than lasers... haha. You just can't build a legit RC for under $100 like you can a laser.

I've actually checked out DX, and they really didn't have anything for cars, I think they had a few servos and motors for planes and helicopters but that was about it, unless I've missed something? In any case, I doubt DX would have any sort of RC parts that were... robust and reliable, I guess that's how I'll put it.

I wouldn't get anything from these Chinese companies
if you break a part (which you will) it will be too much of hassle to get fixed/replaced.
and most hobby shops just wont repair them at all
I have nothing now but i used to have a duratrax evader , then I got a tc4,then I traded it for a wheely king based crawler that I got scammed out of :yabbmad::yabbmad::yabbmad:
but Im getting a hpi micro rs4 with some extra goodies that Im going to turn right around and trade for another crawler.
and for a good first car Id suggest a used duratrax evader buggy. If you buy used you could probably get one for like 50-60 dollars. Or I might be interested in trading the one im getting for a laser and maybe a laptop.
try R/C Tech Forums - Powered by vBulletin and see what you can get there.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it, if this is a legit RC, 50-60 used is an awesome price. I just don't want a $100 piece of plastic like they have at toys r us or something.

no the duratrax is inexpensive durable and has lots of available after market parts available to replace broken parts or if you want to upgrade.

Great! I'm actually looking forward to this project, thanks for the advice. What would be a cheap rock crawler option?

its cheap but you wont really like rc after you get one of those because they always break and you wont be able to fix them easily.

well you can get a wheely king pretty cheap and they have so many parts to convert it into an amazing crawler.
but the stock chassis can be modified to do some pretty amazing things. the duratrax cliff climber i also very inexpensive.
the ax10 is about 200 but is the best new crawler to buy because it performs so well stock and can be upgraded for very little money.
