I can't tell you how much I love this thread.

When I was a kid, I collected rocks. Later in life, they were stolen. I've always loved this sort of thing and am looking to get back into it when space (and wife aggro) allows. I've spread some rep in this thread because y'all have put a big smile on my mug.

Cheers!

when i was younger i used to collect stones/rocks and gems ..
now i see a picture here of a silver stone and i see it is radio active?
i have such a stone somewhere in my house... i was just wondering.. isn't it dangerous to have such stones?

Some stones/minerals can be hazardous if stored or handled improperly. Education is the key to staying safe. But there are many that are minimally or not hazardous to have in your collection. Cheers

Oooh, you got a hot specimen there!! Actually Cejkaite Na4(UO2)(CO3)3
been on my list of Hot rocks along for over 8/9 years....

Uranyl Carbonates aren't exactly common and quite collectable.

That's a great specimen btw!!

The hotter the better.

Awesome stuff@@

I really like going Uranium hunting! Very fun!

thanks man...its one of the lower hot pieces (~20 µsv/h) but thats ok so i can often look at them :)
on the piles near pribram i found very hot uraninites
driving some days around there is realy "hunting" as you say...there are many and they are not overgrown and abandoned

when driving around the bottom of the pile i can say for shure if its uranium pile or only granite because backround radiation increases to 0,5µsv/h

btw.. you need some johannite/zippeite/marecottite/schoepite/rabejacite? have some over because bit to small for my boxes

Great pics of the area!! I'd love to come do some Geigering out your way!!

:) Makes me want to go this summer!!

Keep the pics coming... Really enjoying this!!

I've always wanted to get some Zippeite. Uranyl sulphates are nice too. I only have Uranyl Phosphates, Vanadates and oxides... whats the activity in CPM /uSv/hr or mR/hr (gamma) may I ask?

beta and gamma
the left one is repaired (was sold as 2 pieces and i glued em)
on the right specimen the green crystals are johannite

I've always wanted an acrylic (or better yet glass so UV can penetrate) sealed/encased sample of medium to large crystal autunite, preferably 5cm x 5cm to 10cm x 10cm sample size, but when I looked into it years ago the price was way out of my budget ($1000+).

I still have a hot sample of pitchblende in the basement; 35mR/hr iirc. Might have to dig it out sometime.

Some rather nice autunite specimens can be had
By heading to midnight mine in Spokane Washington.
Apparently if you use a long wave UV light
You can find lots if metaAutunite and the occasional large
Well developed crystal fan shaped Autunite.
There is a private mine left open for Uranium tours.
The name escapes me...

Love this thread. I've always been interested in minerals, as well as pure elements. I did not realize radioactive minerals had such a variety. Definitely have to look more into this. Thanks guys for the wonderful info!

Gorgeous specimens! It may have already been asked, I can't remember; do you make those acrylic cases and mounts yourself?

I Know someone in NZ that has a part of a meteor, i was shown it and got to hold it also, it looked like an ordinary red coloured rock with ruged edges about 1ft x 1.5ft egg shape, it smashed a huge tree in his yard approx 10 Years ago, he has photos ..
he has asked many avenues of the value but they ask for his personal information, here in NZ anything that is found ETC belongs to the Crown(government) so if he talks to loud they would reposses it, I Will Show Pics if i find my old phone,

Bit Off Subject Sorry Guys
