PS3 drive died

Hey everyone:

My two-year-and-a-half-ish old PS3's drive just died. I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty, so I think it's going to be cheapest to replace the drive myself. The drive doesn't sound like it's spinning up with any type of disc, so I believe it's to do with the part that spins the disc, not the sled assembly itself. Does anyone have the rest of the drive assembly, sans sled, that they'd be willing to sell? Does anyone have a matching PS3 with a dead motherboard? If not, any advice on what I should do or experience with PS3 repair? I've done PSP, iPhone and a few other electronic repairs, is it worth trying to fault-find the drive myself (obviously with a disc I don't mind scratching )

I'm in the UK and I don't think that PS3 would be useful - sounds like it has a similar issue to mine. If it failed to read, say, BR discs only, I would be able to fix it using the current, believed-to-be working sled (or a PHR diode perhaps) but that sounds like it has another part of the drive mechanism failing, or possibly even the same part as what has failed in mine. I might beable to find one with a dead motherboard over here (I asked on FB) - but I was looking for anyone on the forum who might have a drive mechanism but no sled in it.
