I'm a royal animal lover, and I would like to see what kind of critters everyone has. Post yours!

edit- this is a really old post, so I made a new one for my pets farther down. This was originally done on the old forum, so the formatting was lost and I didnt' want to try to fix it.

I have a giant african millipede named "shoes".

I don't have any pics of him, I grabbed this from google images... mine is just a baby, only about 2 years old... he's 3 or 4 inches long, and may grow to upwards of a foot long if he lives another ten years.

What I love about him is he's really low maintenance, all I have to do is mist his tank every couple days and throw some old vegetables in there once a week.

I used to have a couple centipedes that I caught. They were about 4 inches long and they could kill just about anything. Now I've got a Savannah monitor lizard named Sir. He's (or she's) a baby and is only about 2 feet long. I've also got a baby emperor scorpion that I feed spiders.

Man, everyone has cool pets except me. I guess having a wife isn't ALL perks LOL.

I used to have a tailless whipscorpion just like so-

But it was the TWS or the wife lol so the TWS had to go. I miss it, it never did anything really, but it was still uber cool.

It seems like a lot of people on here like dogs....dogs are nothing compared to a REAL pet...ducks :D

Ducks are loveable little animals, surprisingly they are actually pretty affectionate. The follow me everywhere I walk.

I have a few cats...but those aren't worth mentioning here... ;D

So do my freaking dogs! It gets a bit annoying when I'm working around the house.

Peace,

For anyone interested, giant millipedes are a great pet... they're docile and slow-moving vegetarians, they're nonvenomous and they don't bite.

Most people that see Shoes assume he's some sort of deadly centipede and are too afraid to touch him... Granted, centipedes are fast moving deadly venomous predators, some can be a couple feet long and eat birds, rats and small dogs, but millipedes are nothing like them.. Their only real defense mechanism is to curl into a ball. Not very intimidating. (Though, apparently if you really agitate them they can excrete some sort of acid that can be mildly irritating if you rub it in your eyes, so don't.)

Millipedes are sturdy little guys who can take a fair bit of abuse, I once though Shoes was dead for three months, I stopped putting food in his tank and stopped giving it water, one day he came out of his burrow and was happy as ever, having not eaten or drank in almost 4 months. They're safe for kids, kids just love the feeling of them crawling over their hands (it feels like living velcro), and the millies seem to enjoy it too.

Not exactly something you can cuddle up with, or that can fetch your paper, but nonetheless an awesome pet. You can find them in pet stores for about $20.. they live for 10+ years and require no special lighting, heating, humidity control or any of that. just throw them in a bucket of dirt, keep it moist, and throw rotten vegetables in once in a while.

I have a malamute/lab mix!!! she is 2 years old and very energetic!!! we let her run free in the neighborhood, and she goes into everyones house, lol , she used to steal their shoes and i would have to return them twice a day! now she loves to hunt and she runs at least 10 miles a day over the neighborhood! she is kind to anyone she knows but she barks loudly at anyone she doesnt recognize!!! she is the fastest dog i have ever seen! her life consists of running, sleeping, eating, playing, and hunting, she has caught and killed over 5 bunnies, 3 mice, 2 birds, 3 moles, and she eats them all!!! she is in excellent health condition even after eating at least 5 treats a day, this is because she runs all day!! she loves to play with other dogs of all ages and sizes!!! she loves to fetch balls and anything that involves running is her favorite. she loves to play in the snow and the rain!! she often comes back from running around soaked in mud and i have to give her a bath, she loves to be brushed and petted, and she has never bitten anyone
