Default Re: Post Your GUN (PICS)

Start with a 10/22 they are cheap and a lot of fun, they come with a neet 10 round helical box mag that fits flush and the BX-25 now has a clear side so you can see rounds remaining.

There are 100's of reasons why I enjoy shooting my 762x39's

-----EDIT-----

I'm going to have to make an extra donation to LPF, I know they are getting photo bombed today with photo buckets failure.

Here's an oldie from the pre GCA1968 a Marlin 22LR with no serial number, they were not required to have them and never did. We need Trump to stop tweeting and fully restore our rights, I promise to spend 20K to support the firearms industry just as soon as I can walk in and buy a MP5 and why not, it's NO more dangerous than picking shots, full autos have very limited use, 3 round burst could be nice, but dumping mags and making your barrel glow is not very smart in a real fight except last ditch up close and desperate, but unlike the movies full auto lasts under 3 seconds in most cases then that mag is empty. It is fun at the range, but you will spend more time loading than shooting.
Sure if you have an eight man military team and 2 men are responsible for suppressive fire, but if you have eight armed men then it really doesn't matter, I don't think that ever happens as far as nut jobs go, for a single sniper full auto has limited use, of course with trigger systems and the sliders and bumpers you can mag dump legally, it's just entertainment and not the horror Hollywood makes it out to be, it's actually not practical/tactical for the lone gorilla fighter or sniper.

Nice, self built is awesome, everyone should learn to build their own guns, it's still legal...HOWEVER know your local laws, regs and infringements all and one.

It's very enjoyable learning marksmanship and with these you really don't have to aim up close if blasting soda cans, but for home defense remember that high speed rounds pass through walls, many walls until you hit brick or stone. The 223 can fragment and you can load out DRT powdered core bullets for home defense, really at close range I like something bigger, a 12 gauge is a good choice with number 1 buckshot.
But by all means get both and go to the range, you meet good folks at the range who will help you and you support the industry, you also represent the people and that's a responsibility that we must always take seriously, no mistakes are allowed.

Quick note as Red mentioned the pre GCA1968 Marlin 22 LR,
my first ever firearm was a Marlin 22LR that I bought from the now defunct Service Merchandise Store's for a whopping $69.99 in the early 80's
17 round's in the tube and plain as can be wood stock and I had a blast with it.
Guessing over 20,000 rounds shot and no issue's what so ever..
Haven't shot any of my guns in probably 10 years Do miss it..

Default Re: Post Your GUN (PICS)

I have owned so many guns but now I read before I buy because good gear typically cost more.

There's so many technical things to learn, like the buffer weight in these very popular direct impingement AR-15's and when you build a pistol or a 20 inch rifle you don't want the 60,000 psi case pressure above 20,000 psi when the bolt carrier group cycles back or it can separate the case, also maintenance intervals and what's important.

Reliability is #1 followed by accuracy. Then all the rest.

In the real world 4 cents a shot 22LR vs. 80 cents a round 308 matters to me because I can shoot a lot on a range day.

AK's are durable, their sloppy tolerances let them run without being cleaned but accuracy suffers, really a better quality boat tail bullet will improve a lot of AK's accuracy but again that costs more.

I suppose a good collection should have your go to high quality guns that you don't wear out and similar cheaper guns that you can abuse, but again if you consider a 9mm glock wears out ( top slide metal fatigue ) in 200,000 rounds, well at 10 dollars a box of 50 bargain bullets that's 40,000 dollars worth of bargain ammo to wear out a 500 dollar gun, so 250.00 or 500.00 to buy the pistol is not the biggest factor.

But if all you can afford is a 200 dollar 22LR rifle and a 200 dollar 12 gauge shotgun then go with that, what counts is getting out every couple months and practicing, you never forget but the finer points are a perishable skill that will come back to you at the range, if you haven't shot in years you will remember tricks that you forgot like your stance and tucking your head into your shoulder, finding the front sight quickly and just how that particular weapon recoils.

Default Re: Post Your GUN (PICS)

I only own 3 firearms,
The Marlin 22LR rifle,
a Ruger 10/22 and
and a Mossberg 500 police issue shotgun which you see the theme of all having basic wood stock.
I don't have a pistol permit which in MA is extremely hard to get, especially to carry.
I can apply for a limited pistol permit for only to keep at home or to bring to shooting ranges thats a bit easier to get but at this point i'm content.
My brother in law has a carry permit though, and is a hunter and also enters bird shooting competitions so I have access to some beauty's like a Belgum made Browning semi auto 12 gauge, a Glock 40 etc.
I don't hunt and never will, but would if I had to feed my family..but loved to shoot objects. There was a big old field in my in laws town that had tons of old junk that wasn't really legal but the law looked the other way as long as you only used shotguns, that was 20 years ago and times have changed.
As you said Red, my cheaper Marlin 22 got the most use, but I was always cleaning and maintaining it.
I just looked at some 22 ammo products and when I last bought some the only hot option was the CCI stinger's, now its insane
I can't remember the company name but their 22LR's would constantly jamb into the bolt when exiting, it was Mormon based company I was told??

Accu, as we see want's the big boys How many people after you Accu?
how many 22 rounds can the average human pull off in 10 seconds in a semi auto?

You should not need permission to exercise your Constitutional right, but I understand your choices, I know we make concessions, but the progressive agenda will have to pry mine from my cold dead hands.

I know we give up a lot trying to be the good guys, a good citizen, yet we want to be free, we want to enjoy our lasers but I will give those up as well if need be to remain legal as long as possible, but I will not obey unconstitutional laws for they are invalid. Wait you say I will get a laser permit. LOL

I now give up my hope that man can live without religion, I see that I was wrong, we do need something bigger than government to guide us.

Thank God for Donald Trump, and God bless America, I was wrong, we do need God and our police and military need God as well, for we are united under God.

p.s. If you know better play along, it's not the creation story or any of that silly crap, it's about unity and the inner strength to fight for our freedom.

The Godless progressives want to disarm us and open our borders to zealots brainwashed to believe killing us is doing their Gods work.

This has become serious, we are facing a global conflict, North Korea, Russia, China who knows when we will be called upon like the minute men and the farmers to repel foreign invaders, this is about survival, we have allowed lofty idealism to blind us to the truth that the world is not ready to live as 1 united planet of people, not while some have been taught to kill us for 700 years. Not while scum like Clinton sells influence to those same zealots who oppress women, how low can a person go?

Our Freedom of speech and our right to keep and bear arms are the final yardstick of our independence, without these rights we will become subjects rather than citizens.

17 round's in the tube and plain as can be wood stock and I had a blast with it.
Guessing over 20,000 rounds shot and no issue's what so ever..
Haven't shot any of my guns in probably 10 years Do miss it..
My first gun was a Marlin .22LR as well. It's newer and not the greatest .22, but it looks neat and was the cheapest at the pawn shop at the time.

Edit: Also GSS, my guns follow the opposite theme. All but one have synthetic stocks.

I bought all mine in the mid 80's and i'm guessing synthetic stock weren't popular yet.
Wondering how much you paid for the popular Marlin 22LR?
So many pages on this thread but wondering if the Taurus Judge pistol has been mentioned?
