I would love to have a Lotus, but I also like the panty-dropping power of the Corvette, but they're a totally different class of vehicles.... so, I'll take both  ;D

this is not true, take a ferrari.

mega power would keep up with the corvette but would make the corvette look silly in corners.

americans dont do corners, its a well known fact.
Who says americans don't do corners :p I love to race in both straight and "circuit" style street races in my truck, although positive traction makes that a bit hard :p

do I count as an American if I've only lived in America a few years?
its a well known fact across the world american cant make good cars.

in the uk you buy a small run around to do your shopping in and pick the kids up. its a 1.6 petrol and small. so good miles t the gallon and very nice to drive.

in america you buy a 5L SUV, you get no miles to the gallon and it drives like shit!

how do americans only get 200bhp from a 4L engine and in japan they get 420bhp from a 2L???

Japan turbo's the shit out of their cars, but you do have a point. American engines are quite inefficient, but the earlier Corvettes... there's some downright shameful numbers in the past for America. There have been a couple good ones though. A Chrysler/Jeep engine I remember developed 80% of its torque at idle.

Well, the car is way cheaper with a v6, better gas mileage. Plus the v6 has a stronger engine block anyways, so it can take more forced induction without forged parts.... But yeah, i wish it was a v8 but stroking it and a super charger you can get 300-400hp from a v6 with decent gas mileage. Not bad? Plus the car was bought for me when i was 15, I'm not going to complain.

Mileage- not so much. I got up to 25 mpg on the highway in my Cobra... with 4.30's.

Stronger engine block? Not even CLOSE. The stock block in a 3.8 is rated to 400hp, the stock Teksid block in a 96-99 Cobra is factory rated at 1200hp. No, that's not a typo.

True you can go with a 4.2 stroker, do heads & cams, put a blower on it and have someone like Justin at VMP tune it, but in the end you'll be out about 15,000 to do it. Proof, you ask? Look at our 3.8L pioneer... Dan Haga. He had almost 20k into his engine to get to what, just under 500hp? You can get a complete fuel injected 347 setup that will give you more power for about $5000. Hell, you can get a complete Terminator drivetrain for $5-7k.

If you haven't already, check out www.3.8mustang.com/forums . It'll be good for you.

Owned by quadcam whatever his name is now. A smaller engine pulling a large load won't deliver such great mileage.

My second cousins had a corvette and when they accelerated with the pedal to the metal you could actually see the petrol gauge go down ;D

My 87 Fiero does that... you can actually see the gauge drop when you floor it. But it does have a
3.8 Supercharged 6 cylinder in it.... and the gas tank is small ;)

Well, officially, they're both rated at 28, but modern American Muscle guys regularly accept that the LS series motors with a manual can get into the 30's. The Camaro and Firebird with the LS1 can both hit 30s with a manual, too.

Yep. Its pretty common for stock LS1 F-cars and Vettes to get 28-30 mpg with the manual tranny. Even the autos have seen 22-24 mpg which is pretty impressive considering almost all of them dyno over 300 at the wheels in stock trim and without the assistance of a turbo or supercharger.

Modern American Pony/Muscle cars may not be as efficient as some foreign cars as far as HP/Liter, but who really cares about hp/L? I'm more interested in total power output, HP/mpg, and HP/lb ratio. Those things actually effect performance and every day driving. All HP/Liter is good for is the little wannabe boy racers who brag that "mAh HoNdUh VtEc makes 100 hp per liter foo!" when its only like 1.8 liters and runs 15 second 1/4 mile times. Big whoop.

So here's my car. Well not my EXACT car, but It is pretty much
the same 4-Door, sliding-roof body.
Mine has a 1.6L intercooled turbo diesel at about 90HP,
and it runs on vegetable oil.
Visually It's pretty much stock exept for a few little details, like the
matte black paint, blacke tailights, black turn-signals,
headlights from the Jetta, a leather steering wheel, some gauges, etc...
Entertainment I only have a lowly Sony CDmp3 radio but a very nice Rainbow
4 Channel 4x75 RMS Watt amplifier and a 10'' subwoofer in a sealed enclosure.

Sorry about being so big, but resizing kinda defeats the purpose of this picture.
