Pictures of my Shepherd doing bitework & others

I got a new bite sleeve the other day, and we did some training. I had some pics of him doing some offleash heeling, but I lost most of those because I'm p-tarted with my camera. Unfortunatly, the bitework pics didn't come out so well because of the light, but you can't train a dog in 105+ degrees, so we had to wait untill the evening.

I normally wouldn't have my own dog attack me, but this is a new sleeve and I wanted to see if it offered better protection than my old one. He bites hard.

I like to let people know when their work is good, I hate seeing when somebody doesn't get noticed for something that took time and skill to make. If I don't feel the need to type out a long post regarding why something is cool I like to leave a simple compliment like "Those pictures are awesome!". I like a friendly atmosphere on this forum so I do my part to keep it that way. Sorry if you feel that is "spamming".

He has over 3000 posts... I don't think even a few hundred "awesomes" would make him a spammer : Why was that even necessary to point out?

Why are pictures on here so big ???  I have to scan the image to get what it is.

Never let that dog attack a person. You should spend your life in jail if it does. I almost had to shoot a critter like that a year ago. Dogs are very social unless trained as attack dogs.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there cowboy. You're wrong on so many levels there.

If you honestly believe all of that, then you are completely, unbelievably ignorant on the use of protection dogs. He is licensed as a protection dog. If he bites someone to protect me, it falls under exactly the same category as if I were to spray someone with OC or shoot you with a taser, each of which I am licensed to use, in other words, if used responsibly, it's 100% legal.

Also, by the very nature of what they are, a protection dog has to be the most stable and approachable dog you'll ever meet. This dog is also has an AKC CGC title- Canine Good Citizen. A "protection dog" that is blindly aggressive is no protection dog at all, because for a dog to protect you, you need to be able to take him everywhere without incident. I take my dog to schools, hospitals and old folks homes because he's so approachable, the people can pet him. No incidents.

A dog that is aggressive, puts his hackles up, barks, growls and shows his teeth, it should also be pointed out, is not courageous or capable of protecting you. He is afraid, and is doing his best to look scary to try to scare off the bad thing. My dog is completely calm until I utter the same, common attack command that the military and most police organizations and the WUSV sport dog organization uses. Then he is calm and professional while maintaining violence of action when he makes the hit. Also, when I tell him the release command, he lets go. When I tell him the guard command, he'll let go and bite again if the agitator tries to do something.

DO NOT presume to preach about that which you do not know. I've only been training for four years now, but I'm training with and learning under professionals who use a method that has existed unchanged for 135 years. Why? Because it works. I guarantee you've come across several of these dogs in your life (and they're not always German Shepherds), and probably all you knew is that it was a very obedient dog. People who have these dogs don't normally talk about them.

The only reason I do is because I also do sport (schutzhund) with my dog and breed him.

I feel I responded in kind. According to him, I should be spending the rest of my life in jail.

In my eyes, my wife and I owe our lives to that dog.

It's also that type of attitude, from people who are obviously completely clueless about this, that is responsible for the current panics and breed specific legislation. Pointed fingers because of ignorance about this chaps my ass.

when he said "should" i dont think he actually meant it as his opinion that you should, I think meant is as "would", referring to the law. Correct or not, I think that's what he intended to say.
