Default Photography 101

Okay - now that I have your attention - HELP !!! ;D ;D ;D

I just bought this from Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

NICE looking lense ! I am hoping beyond hope that it will help to solve my size issues ! LOL !!! It is advertised as a Macro lense - I am assuming, since I have the 52mm adapter shroud for my Cannon S2-iS camera, that it should fit with no issues - now, I am gonna slap that sucker on the camera, turn it on, and muck with it - but is there anything special I should know ?? any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.....If nothing else - heck, it looks sweet ! :

Hate to tell ya, but that's not going to fit on a S2. It's for SLR Flim, or Digital SLR canon cameras that use interchangeable lenses.

The 52mm filter is only a skylight filter for photography purposes on the front of the lens

Yeah, sorry SenKat but that just isnt going to work. By adapter shroud do you mean how the ring can come off in front of the S2, or did you pay the $35 for the $0.01 cent piece of plastic Canon sells to fit there (or one of the metal ones available elsewhere)? Either way though, that mount is only made for two lenses, and to use them you have to choose the right option in the menu so that the focusing adapts correctly. You can't just slap any lens on there, and in fact all you can use are filters, or the two lenses Canon intended for that mount.

What did you want it for anyway? The S2 already has probably one of the best macro features you'll find on a non-SLR... heck, it can do things that I can't even do with my Rebel XTi and $500-600 macro lens/hood.

If you want interchangeable lenses and such though, you unfortuantely purchase a camera meant for the purpose. Your S2 IS already has a lens on it.. putting that eBay lens in front would be like sticking two hubbles end-on-end and hoping to get better pictures (well, not exactly but you get the picture )

Ken Rockwell once designed a zoom lens. You know it as the Hubble SpaceTelescope.

Ken Rockwell doesn't color correct. He adjusts your world to match his.

Well, CRAP ! I was hoping it would work on there ! The maual focusing for macro does not function well on my camera, thus the want for the nice, manual focusing lanse. I do have the adapter tube for the accessories, etc - and it is 52mm...I wonder what the "inlet" side of this big lense is ? Well, NOW I am amost depressed ! Sigh....pays to do your homework, I suppose ! It was one of those things that popped out at me - so I just snagged it ! Thanks all for the help.

52mm would be the filter thread size.
