Paypal called my house.

Not sure if anyone had this happen recently or before but i just got off the phone with a lady from paypal. She wanted to know information about a purchase i made recently on ebay. She basically wanted to know if I made a payment on the item and if i received a tracking number. I told her i made the purchase and got my tracking number and that was it. So i asked her why they were calling and she told me she just was outreaching clients to gather information on clients and sellers or something.

They are probably building cases. I changed my number and gave them the wrong number so they dont bother me. I once had a guy call to ask me why I had not given him a feedback yet. I found it odd how he could pull my number out of the eBay account, and found the only place my number was, was in my PP account.

I put over $1000 into my PayPal for a purchase yesterday and my PayPal account became "limited" so i could not use it to send money until i filled in further info, scanned and upload driver licence and utility bill with address on it. After i did this they called to confirm it was me that transferred the money. 12 hours later my account was available again.

Confirmation email they sent me.

^ Same here, but deposits due to GB recently limited my receiving amounts. It's a European policy to combat money laundering apparently, (had I known they laundered money I'd have sent some off to be cleaned and pressed! :crackup: ). Same solution - Scanned and sent a utility bill, account back in service in less than one hour from original limit message. PP has done well for me for all the charges and hassle others seem to have had.

They limited mine too, they sent me a mail saying they'd take a couple of pound out and return it. I had to write to log on to PP and write how much was taken out and replaced with the code alongside the transfer

Hrm sounds phishy to me. I don't see any reason why PP should phone someone unless fraud has been committed. I ran an eBay store a few years ago that was tightly connected with paypal & I was always told never to trust a 'call' or email from someone claiming to be either asking for information or verifying a recent transaction.

I'd be more worried it was someone pretending to be PP to obtain your information, that's more common than the latter IMO. Whatever the case, be careful what you share when someone as big as eBay or PP calls you to 'check something'

If you are an e-bay seller or own a business that uses paypal, then I can see going through with the identity verification. However, I have so far not had to become a "verified" member, as I use it from a CC and only as a buyer. I have avoided letting out info whenever possible to avoid possible identity theft. There are no guarantees though as "hackers" find other ways to get info.
