Opera tutorials, try and tell me

I remember you that when you download a new browser, you always have to install the Flash player, the shockwave player and Java. Do it from Opera, go to the respective pages and download (and install it) from Opera to ensure the correct version is installed.

@Elektrofreak: What I just said. What is your bank page based on? java, flash or pure html/php?

@bryce007: Since I've never had any of this problems, could you please post me any of the sites in which Opera fails? I'll be glad to test them and tell you if it's an Opera problem or a Java/Flash problem

You might be right Albert.. I didn't even think about java/flash.. I'll try again later and let you know how it goes.

Like just now, I went to Hulu to watch a video, and it says, "Sorry this video is unavailable, try restarting your browser" But it works the first time in Firefox.

Could you give me the exact link please? As I said, I still have to find a single relevant bug. I can't see Hulu videos but because it says that I'm not in the USA :/

The ONLY problem I have with Opera is that when there are two forms on a same page, and you fill one of them and then press enter, Opera clicks the first submit button it finds, and not the one on the form I filled. A part from that small bug (or maybe just lack of implementation, because I guess this is the way it always worked, just that Firefox does it how I want), I've not found any other problem.

I put opera on the windows side of my mac and it is way faster than internet explorer and a bit faster than firefox. I have to try messing with settings to see if I really do like it.

I'll give it a try, but I'm pretty happy with chrome...

Is there a way to get opera to take hand commands on a trackpad like safari can do on a mac? I want opera to go back when I swipe 2 fingers to the left on the trackpad.

This thing you're intending to do is not possible on a PC, just because the touchpad used on PCs cannot make difference from 1 to 2 fingers and all the other tricks the MACs do, and Opera is not the exception ;/ I have a friend with this same configuration than you, and he uses it because of the Opera link feature. If you use windows so much on your MAC you'll love this for sure.

You create an account (simple 10 sec registration) and activate it on Opera on both sides of the MAC. From now the Opera bookmarks and configs will be shared on the 2 Operas, and also on every other Opera on your home. It's like having the same browser on all your computers!

@nefarious: right now, Chrome and Opera are about the same in speed terms. But the interface and features in Opera are just unbeteable IMO

Don't forget to activate Turbo if your connection ever gets clogged, it compresses images so pages load faster.

Glad to see another happy Opera user

Well, Opera is a good browser Albert and I used it myself for several years (before Mozilla and during the life of Firefox 2 which had many flaws), but since Firefox 3 was released I switched back to it. For me it's all about extensions: Adblock Plus (duh!), DownThemAll! (I actually like it more than Opera's built-in download manager), Firebug, FireFTP, QuickProxy, Session Manager (a very handy extension! must have!) and SQLite Manager. And there are many others you may find useful.

Without extensions Firefox is just a regular browser, still it has more third-party support, so it's less likely you encounter a website that doesn't work as expected because it wasn't tested with Firefox. Not so true for Opera. For example, I remember I couldn't use BofA's online banking with Opera.

Of course, if Opera's features completely satisfy you, then by no mean use that and save yourself a hassle of searching and installing add-ons. But accept that it's not everybody's cup of tea. Opera is like a laptop (everything's in a nice small box, no wires, OS and drivers pre-installed) and Firefox is like a custom build, but it's much easier than it sounds.

I see your point and I must agree that you can get most of the handy features of Opera with thousands of addons, but at the end I do the same with Opera in a very similar way, AND, there are no addons that add to firefox a mail client, an IRC client and a torrent client.

If you're not going to use these I understand you stay with Firefox, but if you do, then I would like to see a test of ram usage and CPU load of Opera vs Firefox&Thunderbird&MyIRC&uTorrent&all the FF addons, because I already know who the winner would be in all aspects, and even if only the addons Still, aren't all that addons loading the PC more than Opera? It's just a bit unfair that all the speed tests are made with FF stock version, I'm sure it's not that light and fast when you install 10 addons on it, you know

Opera is faster, no doubt. And yes, I use Thunderbird and uTorrent. But unlike download manager I never wished for these to be built-in. LOL I didn't use Opera's built-in email client even when I used Opera. I'm a micro-ISV and write software for a living, so I store all issued registration keys and other sensitive info in Thunderbird and make regular backups with MozBackup -- another nice tool in Mozilla's universe -- lets you easily backup/restore your Thunderbird and Firefox profiles with mail, bookmarks, add-ons, everything...

These taken together probably use more memory than Opera :shhh:, but it all boils down to what your requirements are. And you are right about the tests, screw them! If you got to the point where you are no longer comfortable with IE, spend 20 min of your life and do a little research. To each his own and I respect your choice.

I see, it's all of needs. If you don't need a professional client manager opera built-in mail client is more than enough, and well, imagine it, I use the IRC client, the mail client and the torrent client daily, how could I use anything else than Opera?
