Okay - I am trying to wire up a second set of chimes for my doorbell, since we have a 2 story here, and you cannot hear the doorbell ring from the chime loacted downstairs when you are upstairs ! So - take a look at this wiring diagram/picture I scetched up in paint....I replaced the stock 16v 10w transformer with a 16v 15w transformer. I thought maybe it was needed for extra juice. no joy :( The bottom one rings (a little bit) and the upstairs one BARELY moves - you can see the actuator wiggle a bit - but no tone. What do you think I am doing wrong ? Am I going to just have to bite the bullet and re-wire for a second transformer ? ARRGH !

HemlockMike set me on the right path :) I was ALMOST there, but the way it was wired, only 8 of the 16 volts was going through the circuit to each chime - so, I will install the second transformer tomorrow, and bring the voltage up to 32, and then half of that is 16 - which is exactly what they need ! I caqnnot believe I was soooo close, but yet so far !

Yep you wired it in series thus halving the voltage, if you had wired it in Parallel you may have got away with using the one transformer.

Yeah, My Dad just called me, and told me to scrap my second transformer idea, and do it the RIGHT way, and run the wires ! LOL....that is because he does not have to run any wires !!!!! It is a virtual impossibility, with the configuration of the house-without punching a TON of holes in the walls - to do it in parrallel. So, screw it - I bought the higher wattage transformer, might as well use both of them ! This is so damned funny, because the running joke between me, nad my real estate lady was that the transformer was easy to get to, so I wouldn't have ANY of the problems I had in my old house - I had told her all about my whiney SOB story since my old house in Florida had the wires up in the 4000 degree attic, and the transformer kept on burning up in that heat. LOL PRetty funny, but LONG story - so I won't bore everyone with it....but it was kinda comical - she kept oin pointing out the transformer locations in the houses as if they were FEATURES of the house ! LOL !!!

Any of you that have gone house hunting before - it can be a tiresome business - she made it worthwhile, even though it was still nerve wracking, since my wife was in Floriday, while I was in Texas shooting pics of all the places she couldn't see on the web ! Thank God we got into a house she likes - she was still petrified that she was gonna hate it, since she still hadn't seen it, until 4 days prior to closing :) All is well that ends well !
