I, like nearly everyone here own a Laserbee. I bought it even though I had seen many aggressive posts about other peoples products from him. As Ped said, I took that as just being "Jerry", I wasn't happy about it the time but it was basically the only LPM that was always in stock and the Laserbee A it was in my budget.

Having said that after his "strange artifact" thread. I will never own another Laserbee LPM. That thread was the final straw in my mind. It really bothered me that he put together a thread that came off like a review using other peoples images and data, rather then actually purchasing one to review himself. However I didn't nep rep him, even tough I was tempted.

I will be in the market for a new LPM soon since I am going to need something to read higher wattage than my "A" does. Most likely it will be something from Arg/Trevor. :)

I, too, would be interested in what Jerry had to say about what's being said in this thread.

But given the general feeling in this thread (and him having abandoned another thread recently), I rather doubt it.

We'll see, I suppose...

He'll show up with a very long post, designed to be read on a very narrow monitor with lots, of pictures, and arrows at some point...

There is one thing I have to give him credit for...

He is the most prolific user of the ellipsis on here...

Or he was...

I think it's good that this has been talked about. But, I think the question that needs to be asked is, where do we go from here?

It's pretty clear that no one here approves of his tactics in doing "business" here on LPF.

What happens when he returns and the behavior continues?

I might be the odd one here when I say this. I had no problems with TJ. He did have issues with a few members though. He also seemed to be able to find the ones that were going to be trouble later on.

I bought a laserbee before Jerry really started causing problems. It only goes up to 1W though so I'd like a new one. It won't be anything from him though. In a way, I kind of wish I never bought aynthing from him to begin with. I only gave him neg rep once because he did come off as an #$%. He then had the neg rep removed and neg repped me. In a way, I wouldn't mind if he is gone for good.

Nothing, except that hopefully enough of the current community will be intact to keep him in check.

If his previous MO is anything to go by, he'll lay low for a few months. Maybe a year.

After that he'll come back and quietly delete the neg repped posts one by one. Who's to be the wiser?

Next step will be to make a few helpful posts here and there. Come off as a nice guy for a while, and wipe the slate clean.

After a while he'll get back into the routine, and no one will care much.

He is counting on the fact that people have short memories, and lose interest.

Certainly people do move on from this hobby.

Or who knows. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and he'll come back to be a nice helpful guy, maybe put some of that knowledge to great use and push the boundaries of what's possible a bit instead of trying to stifle innovation out of fear.

The last possibility, is, aside from maintaining, and adding new advertisements, he just won't come back.

My hope is history will not be forgotten again, and allowed to repeat itself again. Unfortunately it usually is.

This is how it's going to work (from my POV) from now on.

From Jerry's own sticky , edited by myself last year , I take this excerpt ..

It's been noticed that some members "abuse" the rep system with people they don't like. This will not be tolerated. If tit for tat neg repping occurs then the perpetrator will be banned for 7 days.
If a member makes an obviously rude , offensive or otherwise unsavory post then that's up to to the person viewing it to decide whether it deserves a neg rep, but if you issue a neg rep just because you "dont like" that person then a temporary ban will be issued.

Original post here >>> http://laserpointerforums.com/f59/basics-rep-system-40221.html#post522438 <<<

Now, with that paragraph I added LAST YEAR , when I noticed REP system abuse, there are a couple of choices..

We can either :- a) Ban all the members involved for rep system abuse for the time specified in the thread ,or..
b) agree to move on and NO MORE rep system abuse. No more digging up posts from 2010 just to neg rep, because you can't REP for the same post twice. If one of the people involved makes a post that you disagree with, you can rep away, but I will be following and if I deem the neg rep was undeserved, then a 7 day ban will be issued.

You're right Trevor when you say this needs to be addressed & talked about so that's my proposal.

Opinions?

Sounds like a reasonable way to handle it, if not a little annoying for you (the back-checker) if there's a lot of activity.

I think, though, that in addition to what you said, we as a community have to decide what is and is not acceptable to do in the LPF marketplace.

^^ Fair comment.

The only thing is that c0ld really has the last word in this I dont mind the extra work, I'm sat at my desk repairing phones all day anyway and the computer always has a spare tab for LPF.

Thing's I myself would like to see a definitive PUBLIC answer on is the position on canned messages in the welcome section (by ANY member.)
Attacking peoples projects , ideas & software releases simply because they dont like them, if any member has an issue with any of these, by all means address this by posting a thread in the relevant place stating what issue they have WITHOUT resorting to name calling, mud throwing or stifling. We're all adults and should try to behave as such.

Hm, okay.

A year or two ago, a public thread discussing that would not have been successful; I'll draft something.
