Thanks for the gift and thanks for puting this whole LPF event together. You did a great job.
Also a big Thank you to all who participated in this event. It's people like you who help make LPF a wonderful forum...

My gift is a small fire piston. It lets you ignite small amounts of tinder by using compression.

I was so excited to know what i got i had my wife open it over the phone while i was at work haha!

My gifts is incredibly awesome! at least to me anyways!

I got the benchmade Houdini rescue tool

It has a window breaker and a seat belt cutter (which are also very great at cutting off clothing, even better than trauma shears)

I don't have pictures but this is a video review from youtube, i got this same thing (btw, you don't bash the tool agaisnt the window like the guy says, you slow press down agaisnt the window and the spring loaded spike shoots forward and breaks teh glass.)

The next time i cut off someone's clothing i'm going to yell "Chip dddoouugglaasss"
Hopefully it won't scare them too much when i do it :D
This tool slides through jeans like butter, I've already tried it on our training manequin here at the station

Also, I shipped my secret santa gift this morning priority mail so it should arrive before xmas. I had no clue what to get him so i included the gift receipt in case he wants to exchange it for something else.

I'm in the same boat. I've *never* heard the term fire piston before today. I really had no idea you could achieve a high enough compression like that.

You know once you get one figured out, the second one wouldn't take that much more time.

If I figure one out, i'll be making about 100 of them.

apparently they've been used since ancient times so it shouldn't be too hard for a cave man like me to figure it out.

Where do you mount the laser in that fire piston ?

OK I take that back as wood is a lousy heatsink for the driver.
But then again, if it were to overheat enough it could start combustion...
:na:

Sounds like you all are having fun with this.
I want video of him yelling "Chip dddoouugglaasss" while cutting off someone's clothes.
Even better if it's the girlfriend/wife.

I made a fire piston today and it worked!!!

it's definitely something that has to be fine tuned. Mine is pretty hard to get it to work, only works bout 10% of the time, and you have to slam it hard and fast (oh yeahhhh)

I'm going to work on one that's longer and maybe a little wider. This first one was an aluminum tube and a brass shaft. It's like magic when it works. so amazing.
