Why don't they put uranium in them? Small amounts of non purified uranium are completely legal.

UnitedNuclear.com sells uranium ;)

Pretty cool though. I don't wear a watch :p

They are cool watches

Proc . Reason why Uranium is not used is because as its potentially fissionable, its primarily a neutron and Gamma emitter.

In the past Radium was used in old watches and clock dials to glow in the dark, but radium undergoes up to 7 decay sequences before it becomes inert and mimicked Calcium so much that human bones absorbed it like a sponge causing all sorts of nasty bone cancers and lukemia.

Tritium is considered a "Safe " alternative because it has a single decay process to harmless Helium gas, releasing a beta radiation particle in the form of an electron.

Yeah I guess wearing a radioactive element on your arm all day isn't too safe ;D

I might buy a small sample of uranium from unitednuclear though.

There are a few Group Buys on CPF for Tritium...a couple of "commercial" 'glow-rings' and the bare vials themselves....I think one of the peeps is in the UK...The prices are KINDA odd to figure out...search Tritium - and go to the first page in the GB section...
