Argh - that sucker's huge. It's probably an Emperor Scorpion? (EDIT nevermind, yes, just noticed the title of the video)

I've been stung a few times by scorpions (there are a lot of them around here). I don't think I would keep one as a pet. Whenever I find one in my apartment, I get rid of it (sometimes I have to take it away from my cat). Usually I just get about ~ 3 layers of paper towel, scoop it up, and dump it across the driveway - a lot of nice brush, grass, bark to live in, plenty of bugs to prey on. But once, I was morbidly curious so I tossed the scorpion into the freezer till it froze. Then I dissected it (in a kind of amatuerish way).

Fantastic. I love exotic pets myself. I have a few snakes, a beardy and an 8 1/2 foot rectic python :)

This guy is very docile. He's never gone into "attack mode" with his stinger up nor have I seen him ever use it on his food either. He has grabbed me with his claw briefly a few times, either by accident or as a warning (just very light grab, not serious or painful). I think he's smart though and can recognize the feel of my skin. He's very calm when I pick him up, but touch him with say a pen :p he doesn't like it. I just had him crawlin around here on my desk a minute ago lol. And yea 1 of my cats is VERY fascinated by it. As you can see in the beginning of the video LOL :D

I've always wanted a bearded dragon :eek: and I love snakes. I'm probably less afraid of snakes than I am this little guy haha :eek: It's just a little sketchy with those massive claws and stinger :/ I hear the pincers hurt more than their sting. That is why they're less venomous. Bigger claws to protect itself; no need for venom.

Supposedly, the stinger feels like a pin prick and at most a bee sting. I guess if you were allergic it might be a concern. Bark scorpions would be a different story of course. :)

Well, if you look at the video, you'll notice that stinger is about half an inch long and curved lol I do not want it in me :na: Very intimidating, and, of course, you pick them up by the stinger, which is ultra sketchy :cool:

It depends on the scorpion, but MY stings have always been very painful. The amount of pain and the effects vary widely;

I don't know, in particular, what scorpions are most prevalent in my area. All the ones I have seen look about the same, though.

Not mentioned in the article... a lot of scorpion venoms have a "percussive" sensation... like you are being hit at the sting site with a hammer repeatedly. I have always felt that. I also tend to sweat for a little afterwards, and my heart races for a while. I also GET ANGRY!

The ones with larger claws tend to have a mild sting - they don't need uber venom because they've got huge claws :p.
It's the ones with teeny claws you should be very afraid of.

(Cyparagon); So scorpions with teeny claws suffer from "claw envy", and compensate by stinging the hell outa things.

(PED); (umm... hehehe...) Sounds like he should get a guest shot on "SouthPark".

Shine the raw uncollaminated output of a 405nm at it and then you can post a video of it in the laser multimedia forum :beer:

That's why my next laser is going to be a 405 (already decided some time ago).
:)
Plenty of scorpions around here to find.
