I had to do it.  I bought the 55W 4300K HID(High Intensity Discharge) kit from HIDworld and I have to say their service is very good, and fast.  And fitted it to an existing light I had which just had a H4 Halogen globe in it.  I also managed to come up with an easy way to focus the beam externally by mutilating a child plastic telescope.  See pics:

I love the "launch the missiles" switch you added... makes the whole thing look a lot more badass. :D

Wow nice, got any pics of it at night/working??  :)

Yep, sure have.  Man this thing is just blows me away.  The beam shots aren't exactly as the eye sees them, though they are pretty close.

Yeah if I hold my hand 2-3 feet away from it and focus it down I can't leave my hand there. HID's put out more visible light than the larger filament type Halogen globes. I thought I read somewhere the Halogen globes put out as much, if not more, IR/heat than they do light. Don't qoute me on that though as i'm not totally sure.

GooeyGus this is the kit I bought here: http://www.hidworld.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16207&category_id=249 And it looks like they are still on special. You get 2 globes and 2 ballasts and wiring, everything you need to Mod 2 torches !! Which is what I did but I f@#ked up the reflector in the other one, I dropped it and put a huge dent in it and the reflective coating is now starting to peel off. Oh well, I guess it's time to look aroung for another host.

Wow, awesome! It must be able to iluminate stuff miles away with the focused beam. Have you taken any cd/lux/lumen measurements? :p

Just for laughs I put the Lux meter on it, the best reading I got was  1,527,000 Lux  @ 2.8 meters. I really don't think it means that much but I can tell you, you know when you are standing right next to the focal point on a white wall.  I took some pics of the HID bulb and gas capsule on Macro for something to do.  Some of them came out ok.
