I've been working on this thing for ages, and it finally flies.

And now for some shots from the go-pro video. I'll update the post with a youtube vid when I have it uploaded.

On this last shot, in the batting area of the baseball diamond, the white blotch is me.

Boring first flight since I flew pure line of sight. Soon I'll be flying miles and miles away. ;D

That's really cool!

I've got a few questions. How far can it fly on a charge? What is the signal range (apparently a few miles at least)? What are you using to transmit the video from the plane?

Wow, this is awesome!

I would love to work with areal photography as well.

(Could you resize the pics a bit? I had trouble getting the "big picture" haha)

Cheers!

I wish this forum had the auto-resize thing.. lol

I'll work on that. =P

And thanks!

It has I believe about 20+ miles of range. Its two 16.4v 3600mAh batteries in parallel. High efficiency airframe, and yeah. It goes and goes and goes.

And 1000mw of 1.2ghz video link signal being pumped out from the airplane. lol

Could you estimate how much the parts cost? :thanks:

I would really love to start a project too.

Pictures fixed!

Also as for the cost, it really depends.

This one, for everything, is probably around 1500 dollars. Thats for everything, including the go-pro.

And that also includes the really powerful radio communications required to fly it so far away.

You can really build much cheaper ones if you only intend to keep them near you.

If you do wanna do something though I'd be glad to help any way I could.

The size of the pictures should be 800 X 600 pixels to fit everyones
monitors. The pics are still 1.5 screens wide.

Nice in flight pics. Are they what you see on the ground
during a flight or are they recorded images seen after a
flight ?

Yes I know what FPV is but I just want to be sure...:D
BTW... what is the wingspan of your Flying Wing..?

Wow! I'm impressed. I had no idea that kind of thing was possible outside of military applications.

Other then the cost, what else is required? Was this built from scratch? A kit? Or can someone just outright purchase a system and aircraft ready to fly?

Edit: What's the bright purple light in the next to last photo? Almost looks like a 405nm laser. :)

Its built from a whole bunch of components. Mostly high end RC plane gear plus some wireless surveillance equipment, and some purpose built FPV gear.

It is arranged and planned from scratch, so.. I dunno if it would count as a kit. There is one ready to fly FPV plane but it is kind of terrible.

Also that purple light is an alien.

Those pics are what you see live on the ground in your video goggles. Which fill your view perspective with that. So its kind of awesome. =D

Its wingspan is ~58 inches wide.

Thanks ped!

Its been a few years in the making. The old air frame disintegrated and then numerous parts fried over the course of making it but.. yeah. It works!

Just have to get the GPS repaired so I have speed, altitude, and autopilot again.

I have one too!

Its broken, however. The ESC's don't like the rapid changes the board gives and like to.. shut down in mid air. ha.

Yeah thats really annoying when it soft cuts them. And then they come back on to power it into the ground.

I really like your frame! Wow! That is a beauty! Nice work! I wish I had that thing. Its so much prettier then mine. lol
