My Cat Is Seeing Something

he has been acting weird for the past two days, he is 8 months old siberian

he is looking at the sealing as if he is tracking a fly, but there arent any flies, i thought maybe there is some infrared dot, i checked with a camera - nothing

sometimes he comes to a corner of my room faces the corner and looks up in the corner, and just stares blankly, there arent any spiders, flies, or noises, why would ke do that

Cats can see infrared about as well as humans can, but no better. If you can't see it, the cat can't see it.

Cat's have way better night vision than humans. That makes people think they can see infrared.

UPDATE: Just thought of something: mice or bugs in the walls.

Wait, is this a vet forum? Where the hell am I??!?

Seriously though, cats are weird. Out pets are always outdoors, and a couple years ago we had a cat that would just run around and jump at nothing. Really. It would just run back and forth through the yard pouncing at air...im sure your cat is fine.

Or maybe its seeing ghosts

i was thinking ghosts, i was thinking mice or bugs, but if our building had one or another there would be a HUGE fuss about it. I am thinking its just him being weird, maybe he had a hair in his eye, like dust that moves away ha

i know, just a train of thought, like what if, cats have horrible vision, they see a bird far away, but they dont see a peace of meat you dropped on the floor and you have to point 5 times to it

i dont think VET specializes in mental health lol, cat isnt crazy just weird behavior, and yes he has been to the vet after we bought him

What a cute kitty. If you know anyone else in your building with a cat or dog ask them if they have had anything like this happen. If you have a friend with a cat ask them to bring it over and see if it does the same thing, then maybe you can tell if your cat is a mental case or if it really sees something that you can't.

A cat is no more likely to be crazy than a human. There could be something real here that should be investigated further so lets take this seriously until it stops or if nothing is found with reasonably available methods of investigating this.

Zar, you said you checked with a camera, did you just look at the screen or did you take some photos? Please take a few photos in every room including when the cat seems to see something and see if anything anomalous appears in any photo.

Has the cat been lasered at all? Apparently animals struggle with image retention in the retina because unlike humans they can't figure out what it is and startle every time they see the imprinted image when they look at a wall or blank object. It reportedly happens sometimes after a camera flash.

Pretty strong argument, there.

Don't worry about it, Zar, cats are known for acting like that all the damn time. Staring into a wall or couch or nothing at all.

I highly doubt that any sort of spectral entity would've picked exactly one particular corner to hang out for all eternity with a purpose of maybe turning a cat's head or two.

Besides, could also be acoustics in your room. Depending on your computer location or speakers or TV or something, it just might appear from that spot as if the sound is coming from that corner of the room.

Or, you said you live in a building. Cat's maybe picking up various sounds from sorrounding appartments too faint for you to hear.

Just don't sweat it, don't make yourself paranoid about ghosts or anything. And certanly don't try to seek info from any dedicated forums or groups or something like that. People there are as crazy as they make 'em.

Yeah one of my dogs caught the "Red Dot Fever". I am calling it this. Thusly the name I have minted lol.

Seriously though. Even just shining around a powerful laser is enough to cause floaters. If Mrs. Fuzzypants sees floaters, it is no wonder she looks up.

1. You could have been shining them up on the ceiling in the first place, now she knows where to look.

-or-

2. Floaters in my experience travel. If the floaters manifested themselves above the retina, then as the cat attempts to track it, the floater will appear to go/float higher and higher.

Maybe avoid lasers around her for a bit?
