Oh...I forgot all about the length of the protected batteries. I still need to get some...lol. That might mean once I get them I can do away with the spring and all will be a-ok. You are right too, I did not have to unscrew mine as far as I did, but I still need the spring for now. It is much better.

Imagine if you were using non protected batteries..lol. I would always be worried about over discharging them.

Well Jay replied to my PM but it sounds like his LED fits better. I got mine to be much better but I will need to do some more work on it. What I did was unscrew the LED assembly almost all of the way. This will put the LED well up into the reflector. Of course what will happen is there will be a gap between the negative or positive battery contact, and the battery. I happened to have a spring I put in the tail cap just to see if the center of the light was better, and it was. It is brighter than the outer light just like it should be.

Gazoo, if you had to unscrew the threaded assembly almost all the way up, that's at least 1/4". Something doesn't sound right. There should be just barely any difference between the Cree, and the stock emitter. How did you like the fit for the heatsink? I'm sure you must have tried it...

Oh...You must have been typing your last post at the same time as I was typing this...

Jay, I wanted to get a spot of light as good as yours. It's hard to keep up with you.. ;D I am very happy with this flashlight mod, and the MXDL in general. Now I see why everyone loves these things. The price of this MXDL is awesome...the build quality is very good and the switch feels nice and solid.

Yes I did try the heatsink, it is a perfect fit. Thank you.. :)

I am going to get a couple of more MXDL's on order...in fact I may order a few more..lol. And some other parts. Thanks again.

I'm glad to hear that you like the heatsink. And the MXDL. Obviously, I like the MXDL very much too! You will like it for a laser host as well...

Do you think i could get something like this to fit in there? It would make the spot alot cleaner since its textured and should get rid of that black spot.

That one is way too small. It shows the measurements in the pictures. I did a search at DX for 'reflectors', and didn't see anything that looks like it would work for a replacement...

Lol, i guess i never noticed that, i might still order it and just not have a good fit, as long as it will fit inside the head im sure id be fine, might just glue it straight to the cree. Wont look as nice on the inside but it would sure make the output alot cleaner and take that black spot away.

You may have to modify the existing reflector, maybe drill it out to fit the smaller one inside it or something. Because, the glass lens will be loose without the reflector. Maybe just a thick O-ring would work too...

Actualy i was thinking i could just epoxy the glass lens to the case itself so nothing would have to hold it in place, then it would be a simple matter of maybe dremeling it to get a good fit then covering the contacts of the led so it doesnt short it out, then just glue it straight onto it.

Good luck... ;D You can always clean it off if you don't like it.

Hm, i put it on there but it made the center spot to dim, it sure cleaned it up but it was almost hard to make the hotspot out from the flood so i tried to take it off and it wont come off completely lol.. luckly i dont think it has reduced the output much but it is now slightly cleaner with a less noticable yellow ring.

Might order that textured reflector.. diy didnt work for me lol

Well now we know. You might want to check around and see if you can find a reflector that is the right size or at least closer to what we have. But I am pretty happy with my light since I moved the led more into the reflector. I have the yellow ring around the center too. I think the hole in the reflector was drilled to big.
