To each his own but I wouldn't use unprotected batteries unless there was a protection circuit built into what ever I am using it in...for example, my RPL has a protection circuit built into it, so I can use unprotected batteries for it. I mean, if your using your flashlight in a situation that demands run time, you will want to run it until it gets dim or unsatisfactory...Just my opinion though...

Lets hope this stuff gets here fast, knowing dx tho i might be in for a wait, this will be my first high powered led torch ill have ;D

On the driver i know its connected to the case negatively, but is there a place where you solder a wire on then connect it to the positive of the led to get it to work?

It will be easy for you...the driver has negative and positive leads already on it! The only thing, is to make sure the outside ring is making contact with the MXDL case (threaded circuit mount) via a small wire that will 'pinch' between the circuit board and the aluminum threaded mount. There is a picture of mine on the 1st page of this thread. I hope you are not disappointed with the brightness of this light mod. It's not going to be brighter than a 1,000,000 CP Costco flashlight. I have a 500 lumen Xenon light and it is about 1/2 as bright as that. But I like it much better because of the size of it. Also, the LED emitter will out last the Xenon bulb probably 100 times over! Not to mention batteries and run time...

I wont mind at all, the flaslight i have now is not even 2mil , it says 2,000,00cp but it might just be a typing erorr, and i pretty much have to carry it around in a wheelbarow cause of the huge sealed lead acid battery in there, and i like that the flaslight will have modes that i can chose, hopefully the fast strobe is actualy fast where it looks like slo motion in the dark that would be cool. And if anything it would actualy be white, i dont like that the flaslight i have now has a very yellow tint to it.

Not familiar with pseudo-random?? But I can tell you that the driver I am using for this mod has three different strobe modes. Using the MXDL, the modes can be changed from the on position, by slightly pressing the power button. I like that it seems to always come on in 'high' mode because that's what I like most! If you slightly press the tail switch until the light turns off (but not enough to click the switch), then let off and it will be in 'low' mode. Do it again and it will be in 'slow strobe' (flashes about 3 times a sec.). Next is fast strobe (about 5 or 6 times a sec.). And finally, the 'SOS' mode which flashes about once every 8 seconds. But it works normally as if it had only the high mode in normal use. You have to make it switch modes...

I don't know what i've done wrong but i'm getting no where near the light I should be. I don't seem to have a high or low mode. The first mode is the same as the second one and that is the second PCB i've put in. So I don't know at this stage. So jayrob, you hooked the black wire from the PCB to the emitter along with that original bare wire that jambs between the PCB and housing ?? I'm clutching at straws at the moment.

Nevermind, I just sorted it. It was the fact that I had the bare wire connected to the negative side of the emitter as well as the PCB negative.

How did it show up on the meter in the high mode? They claim 228 lumens with the 3.6 rechargeables...

pseudo...I don't use the strobe either. But I guess if a guy got stranded on a boat in a river or something. The random strobe function would make the batteries last... (this actually happened to me on a duck hunting trip once, fortunately I had one good battery left up front that didn't go under water when the boat sunk because the flotation of the boat kept the tip of the boat up. That battery allowed me to signal a boat across the river around 2:00am. It was the Coast Guard. I had a cig. lighter spot light that I cut the wires and connected it up direct to the battery. Boy was that boat a sight for sore eyes! We were wet from bailing the boat and freezing to death!)

i dont think it will show that high because they said the driver only put out 800ma in high mode not 1000ma like it claims, im sure it would be pretty close tho.

I got 2540Lux(235 Lumens per sq/ft) on high, with 3.6V batts, with the modded torch and 1660 Lux for this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2888 which is supposed to be 150 Lumens Max.

ah the wait... the circuit is back orderd but every thing else i here... i cant do this without the circuit.. lets hope they get it back in stock soon

The light already is smaller/brighter than i thought it would be, and i realy like the feel of it, cant wait until i can put that q5 in it, it will be 2 times brighter than it is now ;D

I fear that this circuit will be on back order permantly... is there a way i could just swap out the resistor already in there with a lower value one to power it at 1000ma? :-/
