So, I picked up the July 2008 Issue of PC Magazine today... guess what was in it? A WL ad. It claimed that the Spyder II was the most powerful handheld laser in the world... So, I promptly fired off a nasty email to them, and a precautionary one to the folks at PCM. :D

Anyone else read it yet? 'twas a particularly good issue. :p

WOW. that sure makes me mad...

i say we all save up and build a 1 Terriwatt Laser to shine at the main WL company. I'm not sure which would be more painful, their destroyed building or the Irony!

PIC! PIC!!!!!

I second that motion. Don't just post ranting about it, scan the damn article in

And, just to clarify. Didn't at one stage WL have the most powerful pointer in the world? Like, 2 years ago a Spyder I with a peak of 400mW or something. But... mind you, they certainly doing have the most powerful laser these days :)

I felt like going on their online chat to ask them to explain this, then point them to links to more powerful lasers and see how they try to defend their ridiculous statement... except I don't know which spyder they're claiming that for... looks like one is green, and is 200-300mW... there are 400mW pointers available... the other one is blue, TEM03 apparently, and 15-30mW... there are 35mW pointers available.
PS: TEM03 is bad, right? who would advertise that?

I sent them a customer ticket about that. They said that since the record being set 'other' companies have made more powerful lasers but they're working on the Spyder III. I asked them why they still advertise it as the most powerful and they didn't reply...

There's the guy with the 4W IR handheld. That's more powerfull than the pump diode in a spyder 2. :p It's not comercial, but they didn't say "the most powerful comercial laser" either....that wouldn't look so cool.

They still advertise their 2007 record, but even at that time LaserGlow had more powerful ones. ::)

Maybe they really mean 'most powerful laser pointer' not 'most powerful portable laser'.

Which is kinda right. Off the top of my head I can't think of a pointer hitting 400mW, like the Spyder I. That is pretty impressive, I wish they still sold those.

Yeah, well when it comes to advertising they'd better SAY exactly what they MEAN. ::)

Spyder II GX    "The world's most powerful handheld laser."
"The most powerful handheld laser in the world."

[ch8213] Guinness Book of World Records 2007

Besides, the Spyder 2 is kind of a bulky pointer....more like a flashlight laser... :-/

There you go "The most powerful handheld laser in the world", which simply is NOT TRUE.It's a LIE! Plain and simple, they can't deny it.

Well there you go.

I really believe in the honesty of people, and try to find a reasonable reason behind dishonest actions. But I don't think I can find an honest side to this, how sad :(

the SpyderII wasn't even the laser that got them that title, it was the SpyderI which was something i the area of 300-400mW, but that was a while ago and other companies have obviously beaten that benchmark.
