Ok, this was my little project for this last week.

I made it all out of cheap wood, a 2 dollar saw and some vinyl glue I had.

(Then I painted it with white paint and some.....IDK how it's called in english, but it's that shiny thing that is applied to furniture in order to preserve them better...in spanish it's Laca, maybe in english it's Laque but I don't feel like bothering google now :p).

So here are the pics! (sorry some of them, if not all, are blurry because my camera sucks and I don't have a tripod. if i take pics with flash they get a lot of noise..)

BTW, these are the 20mm magnets found on DX, took them like 3 months to arrive, so I've had this idea in mind for a lot of time :p

nice project, i've been thinking for a long time to do something like this, but i want something where there are no wires (to see)...

now all you got to do is illuminate it with a laser somehow... ;)

Very nice, I like it  :p

I think Laca = Varnish ?

No, I was afraid you'd get it as varnish, but it's not it.

google helped me:

lacquer :)

thanks diachi!

haha, i doubt i can illuminate it with a laser, black&white does not go with green IMHO

BR does  ;)[/quote]

Ohh...it'd shine so much it'd be impossible to watch!

That is so cool! I got to make one too.

PLEASE do make one!! I want to gather more ideas for a next magnet project!

WOW! That is such a cool idea! :D It's a pretty nice scientific geeky ornament too! ;D How about adding some LEDs, and possibly a motor to spin the magnets so all the doodads would wobble? :D Maybe even enclose the magnets in the small black box completely so you can't see them spinning. The downside would be that it would require electricity.

I thought about the LEDs or something else to be added, but I wanted it as simple as I could get it. I just finished playing Mirror's Edge and I wanted simplicity in colours and style (though I didn't have many tools or paint colours :p), adding LEDs would have made it heavier, it would need a battery, a Switchezbitchez and wiring, it'd make it look kinda ugly (the "wood" is only 4mm thick).

All thingies are balanced. What I'm trying to say is that if you move one of them then it will affect the magnetic field of the others, so making the magnets spin wouldn't be a very good idea IMO :)

I'm gonna try to make an electromagnet box

I would REALLY appreciate it if somebody did this, I can't imagine how far away you can put things to be attracted to an electromagnet (yes I know there's a formula, but it's not that easy if you're using various iron pieces).

I'm looking for new and better ideas! :)

that is sick
you could try using the little but strong neodymium magnets in the phr sleds

i'm sure lots of people have tons of phr sleds lying around

a mini version would make a cool keychanin- impractical though

I guess a mini version could be cool, thought it'd have to be in transparent acrylic. It is possible.....although I don't have ANY sleds :p

These are just from 6X sleds.  The magnets from the PHR sled are a bit larger.

it's even better if you have really really strong magnets and can have them suspended further from your magnets.

Oh and the product your looking for an english name to in laquer.

I don't like the magnets from the PHR sleds cause they don't align the same way with each other. Really annoys me.
