I've had my share of screwed up dreams as well. Here's one from my (short-lived) dream journal...

Sunday, February 03, 2008

A nuclear incident, the largest nuclear bomb ever dropped in the world, caused everyone on Earth to get become poisoned from radiation. The news stories were all covering it, and people were all grouped into large outdoor camps where they held all of their possessions. Almost everybody was dying slowly, but there was no pain. They simply became lethargic and realized that they were dying, but nobody was scared. Everybody in the colony was just accepting their fate with no fighting and no complaining. It was as if humanity had just suddenly accepted its fate to eventually die as a species. The news was covering the story, and people tuned in to watch, to see the spread and severity of the situation. People were living in their outdoor camps, appreciating the small bit of time that they had left before they too were dead. After 24 hours, ¾ of the population in the colony was dead. Although the mood would seem depressing, nobody thought of it as sad or upsetting. I thought of it as an adventure, and I hoped strongly that somehow, despite the annihilation of the rest of the population, I would not die. Almost everybody I knew had died by the end of the first day, but my parents and Tycoon remained alive, although developing the symptoms of their imminent death. I thought of this as an adventure, and a quest to strive for and survive. My parents were not sad that they were dying and did not ask for care. They wanted me to gather supplies while they were still present in the chance that I would still live, and they were cheerful about it. By 36 hours from the event, they were dead as well, and only a couple of people remained alive, although barely. I took Tycoon with me, and we gathered food from all of the dead people at their camps, and were helped out by the barely-living others in the area. By dusk, we had gathered enough food to make it through for about a week, and we planned on obtaining more the next day. After 48 hours, it was obvious that I was the only one who was going to survive this event, as nobody else was alive anymore. I thought of it as the dawn of a new adventure, and the creation of almost a new world for me. Tycoon and I gathered more food, and realized that survival would not be hard in this new world. By that afternoon, Tycoon had also died and I was truly the last one, alone on the Earth, and I was ready to lead an entire new existence.

I've lucent dreamed before, but not alot. Maybe like 2 or 3 times total. It's great fun cause whatever you want to happen just does! I can't really remember any of them, though.

One thing about dreaming that I DO remember, is when i dream i'm underwater. I don't know if this counts as lucid or not, but here goes.

It'll be a normal dream just kinda going along (at least I think, I can't really remember anything up until the point that I become aware) and all of a sudden for some odd reason i'll be submerged in water. Just as strange as how I got there, is the fact that there's no obvious way to get out. I also don't even remember TRYING to get out. But of course in water, you hold your breath, so that's exactly what i do. In the dream, and in real life, too (kinda scary if you think about it). I'm still floating around doing whatever I'm doing, and i'll start to run out of breath in real life. SO what happens is i'll start to take a tiny little breath. I find out that I can breathe under water! SO i'll try to take another little small breath. REALLY tiny breath. It still works, so after a while of trying this, i'll start breathing normally, in my dream, and more importantly, in real life! After that I can't remember too well whether i'm aware of what's really happening or not, I can't tell.

Main point is: one day I just vividly remembered my dream, and thought back to it and realized that I had actually been holding my breath in real life as I was dreaming about being under water. WEIRD....

Okay, here it is. This one is even stranger than the first!

To clarify: Chris, Maria, Carly, and Josh are my friends, in case you couldn't figure that out.

April 17th

This dream started out fairly normal. Chris and I were at a scout camp in the rain, and it was very muddy. Mr. Jacobson approached us and told us that we would soon be having a visitor, except it was very important that we don't do anything we shouldn't, because the visitor was female. Chris and I replied, "Don't worry, we're not perverts!" and we ran off. Soon after, my dad pulled me aside, and he told me the exact same thing. He said that she was somebody from the Navy, and that I need to be very careful not to say anything about her physical condition (she had a rare disease) as she is very sensitive. I wondered why she would be coming here, but agreed.

Unexpectedly, my dad, brother, and I had to leave. We told Mr. Jacobson that as well, and this also meant that our guest would be waiting at the hotel for us. We went to a very fancy hotel suite in a part of Seattle I have never been to. It was up on a higher level, something like the 15th floor. There were 4 or 5 rooms (as I said, a very fancy hotel suite), and many people. I knew most of them, but not all. First I met the guest. She was about 50, and seemed to be a bit sad at her condition (she never said what it was), but very happy otherwise. She was glad to meet me and glad to talk to somebody. I also saw Tom Shear, my aunt Jo, Carly, Maria, all of my family, and some other people. I introduced the guest and Carly, and told the guest that Carly is probably much better at explaining things than we are. They seemed happy enough talking to each other, so Maria and I left.

We both questioned why we were even here in the first place, and were surprised to find out that neither one of us knew. We looked out the window to see a gigantic air cannon launching dollar bills into a gigantic crowd of thousands of people, and the people cheering. I had no idea what was going on. We got back to talking, and I noticed a small lot, overgrown with grass, built between the skyscrapers. It could only be accessed by small dirt paths through brush, and it had many dollar bills that had drifted away.

As I proceeded to leave while Maria was distracted by the main events, I got to the staircase and thought, "This isn't right." So I told her and showed her what I was going to do, and invited her along with me. We rushed down the staircase, and I started to think about how similar that area was to my strange California School dream series that I had a couple of months ago. I began to think about dreams in general, and how interesting and diverse they are. This dream was so realistic, the possibility never even came to my mind that it could be a dream as well.

We got to the bottom of the staircase, and ran along the thin dirt paths. There were grasshoppers jumping all over the place, and we were almost completely walled in by all of the huge skyscrapers. It seemed like such a special place. We finally reached the grass-filled lot, and we saw that another boy had the same idea we did. All three of us took as much money as we could before it ran out. Suddenly, without warning, I had to leave the party and Maria behind to go somewhere else.

We rode back in the van to our house, except it was different. First and foremost, it was in Greece! It was like a merged combination of our house now and our house in Massachusetts. I saw that we were with Chris and Josh as well. However, this was not like normal Greece. It had a very large wilderness area, wet like our forests. This area was made up of a dense forest and many small mountains. I looked at them, thinking how great it would be to take a venture into the mountains, just me, Chris, and Josh. I suggested this idea to my dad, and to my disbelief, he agreed!

I immediately began to pack up. We had 24 hours of wherever we wanted to go in the mountains. I packed lots of food, especially a special kind of French-made juice candies. The three of us left, crossing the road. We asked a local where to go to get into the mountains, and he told me: "You cross this glacier past the underpass, and just keep going straight. I must warn you, after the overpass, there are no people anywhere." I thanked him and looked under the large concrete overpass. There was a very large, extremely deep snowfield with crevasses scattered inside of it. Chris and Josh crossed before me, and I took a different route. As they urged me on, I noticed that I was flanked with crevasses on both sides. I was afraid that I would fall into a hidden crevasse ahead of myself and not make it out alive. However, I pushed on, and we went into the wilderness.

We looked to see all of the mountains around, the closest 2 or 3 miles. We pushed through the forest with a goal mountain in sight. As we climbed the mountain, the views got better. We were only climbing low-elevation forested mountains, but we could see glaciated rock peaks in the distance. We got to the summit and took a break for dinner. As we headed down, we noticed that there was a particular mountain that we could reach that stuck out. It was by far the tallest, and had a very interesting-looking summit. We set our sights on this mountain for tomorrow morning, set up camp, and built a fire. Then we slept.

The next morning, we packed up and started to head to our goal mountain, the tallest within 25 miles. It was very cloudy out, and raining. We began to climb the mountain, and it started getting difficult towards the summit. There was a steep, wiped-out final stretch, but we proceeded forth anyway. After a short scramble up, the peak was only about 15 feet away, but the clouds and rain turned to a storm. Thunder was stiking the peaks near us, including the one we had climbed yesterday. I looked up to the summit, wondering if I should continue, because it was within reach in 30 seconds. I thought that it was not a good idea, despite the fact that we were so close, because of the fact that the peak was much higher than the surrounding mountains, and I looked up. I saw, sitting at the summit, the skull of a large mountain goat with horns almost 3 feet long. I saw its eerie grin, and I noticed how much its horns looked like lightning rods, and thunder struck extremely close. I didn't know what to do or how to get home safely, and I woke up.

nice story mark! You gotta love those dreams that jump round from place to place like that. This really reminds me of the "stream of consciousness" unit we did in english one time.

Anyways,

I'm sick. I should have some of those trippy dreams tonight, maybe i'll have a cool story to post tomorrow!

That's a long dream, you should write a novella...

It often happens to me, at the end of dream, that elements from the physical world interact with my dream, like once I had my hand under my chest, the circulation of blood was blocked because of the weight, and the pain and pressure in my dream where recreated by having my hand chewed by a carnivorous plant... And a other time where a bird (a cardinal, got tons of them in the neighberhood) was signing, and in my dream it was actually somebody talking very fast...

I have had only one Lucid dream. It was so real and I thought to myself, "Your dreaming just open yours and you'll see." Stupid me, I opened my eyes and it was gone, been trying to Lucid dream ever since.
