LPF Vs PL-- reality Vs preceived notions

IMO as long as so many have a neg attitude about the US and THEM -- we will be in a no-win situation forever. At SELEM IV last year I was thinking I may meet some with a not-so-freindly attitude about me --being a sorta LPF vet and a noob on PL and not even owning a projector- It was very nice to see that I was very wrong--

After SELEM I was hot to have my own LEM in South Texas so I rented a wharehouse and found that two PL members that had befreinded me at SELEM were going to be in my area and offered to come down and bring thier projectors for my friends and me. I contacted as many laserists as I could on short notice including Tim Walsh who was and still is president of ILDA. He had a show to do that weekend but was very nice on the phone and gave me a better feeling about the rift between the forums.

I contacted him again this year when searching for ride sharers but he said he prolly would be busy again. So while I was typing this my cell rang and it was Tim. He has managed to get away and wanted to know if I still needed a ride. Very cool thing for him to do.

I ran across a thread from last year on PL started by Tim- 40 some posts by 20+ some PL members and NOT one had anything bad to say about 'US' if fact he was proposing a new catagory of membership in ILDA for 'hobbiests' which is us. All of PL members that posted thought is was a great idea-read it for yourself:

ILDA is somewhat small but the only real organized 'voice' speaking up for the laser folks including us.
Tim was suggesting a $50 membership which is $75 less than the 'individual' membership that exists now. This new catagory would be for those of us who want to do shows at home and for our friends- not for those doing lasershows for a living.

My point is this-- until you acually meet some PL members you really do not have a accurate idea about PL and ILDA.

Idiots doing very stupid things with portables are the enemy NOT the guys at PL. And the reality is that we have some of those idiots as members here- no doubt in my mind whatsoever-- and likewise IMO there are very very few of 'them' on PL.

So rant and rave all you want about the 'haters'-- when it may be you that hates not the vast majority at PL or ILDA.

don't like Laser pointers... as if they were born with one up their butt...

@Wolf- As Tim Walsh will be at SELEM V in less than 4 weeks I will find out more about "asscociate membership' of ILDA-from him in person.. we would get to dsiplay our ILDA Member logo in our sigs and posts. They have a newsletter IIRC- knowing guys in the lasershow biz can lead to possible jobs etc. One ILDA member told me he would galdly pay me 10% for every lead to a lasershow gig that I sent him which landed him a gig. And another 10% if I actually lined up a job for his company. His show runs from $3K to $30K out of San Diego.

Maybe I will finally discover what I want to do when I grow up!!!

Sounds great to me! I've been thinking about what I want to do when I grow up too, HAK I may have to wait until MY KIDS grow up, first. LOL

There is no comparison between the two forums. They are far too different.

How to solve these petty little conflicts?

Stop talking about it.

Stop talking about the other forum, and let them stop talking about this forum. We don't spend time here talking about other forums with different interests. Let the forums have their differences, because the differences are a blessing. The differences have to be there. The two are now incomparable.

If you must balance the consistency of lasers between the forums, then refer to the other members as PL members and not as over-bloated supremacists and then refer to those here as LPF members, not childish retina disintegrate-rs.

Understand and respect the differences while at one, and then ignore them while you're at the other forum.

Len get off the crusade. Now you're the drama whore. No one said PL was a terrible place. The only issue I had was you soliciting donations for PL over here. Thats all. So now you're trying to drum up some support to make you feel better, or make you feel "right". Let it go man. Your only giving people one side, not the whole story.

The forums serve different purposes.

There is no need to "bring them together."

You messed with me for my sloppy review- so I thought I would take a look at some of yours just to see how it SHOULD be done-- but guess what?? -- you have NO reviews- and when the VET Box came around you said all it had was a bunch of C@sio junk and then you buy and sell that same 'junk'.( hope you enjoyed the game discs and controller i put in there for you) you are the whore here.. a post whore with nothing better to do. you have never done anything for me-- and you know that you cannot say the same thing to me... bug off-- see your doctor your meds are no longer working.

Though I do agree with TJ on one point.. All the different PL/SELEM threads your starting are getting old. You seem to start a new one every couple of days and I don't see the point.

PL is PL. LPF is LPF. We will never be 'one big happy family'

If you want to talk pointers, come here. If you want to talk scanners/projectors, go there. It's really as simple as that. Getting a mass migration of people from here to there is about as pointless and trying to get a mass migration of people from there to here.

I didn't know there was any tension at all. I have maybe 20 posts on PL, and yet they're always super nice and supportive.

They're much nicer to me with my 20 PL posts, than we are to new members with 20 LPF posts.

But by the very nature of what we're both about, I think we have to approach things with more skepticism and concern here on LPF. Pointers lens themselves to abuse moreso then projectors, and the average age on this forum skews younger. I'd also suggest that this forum is a lot more active, with more for the mods to keep track of.

We also have a lot more egos in our crowd.

But, this thread is unnecessary.

Len the projector "junk" was all power supplies, and not much else. As far as I know the power supplies are junk. And those games, and controllers were for a PS1, so they had no use for me. Thanks for the thought though.

And look for a review coming in the near future. :beer:
