I think I see the difference...

On my previous post it was nearly an hour after the last post before I managed to reply.

...then Infinitus replied in two minutes and wolfman in one minute more. Lol looks like I need to step up my game.

I think this is a great idea.

I would be in if I had been on here longer, but if you need a +1 for anyone else in Australia (cause shipping from US to Aus would suck) I'm willing.

Alright, so.

Here is what I feel must be done and it hurts me to do so. Please note that these rules are NOT final and may be subject to change until the event is actually announced. Please feel free to request changes until then.

Criteria for eligibility

1:) At least 6 month join period and OR 500+ posts (Can be overseen in come circumstances) - New members who dont meet this requirement and wish to participate can request some of us to verify your credibility and OR send your gift to a middleman

2:) Im going to go out on a limb here and suggest a minimum of 15$ as a limit and a 50$ max. (I feel this gives a bit of flexibility to members who may not want to purchase more goods to meet the minimum limit) I know some of you will not be happy with that so I feel a poll is due.

3:) Under NO circumstances should broken items be sent. Used items are OK. If you feel your item may fall under the damaged category you can pm me about it.
(I am sure there people will be worried about this rule and I assure you that you may check first to make sure :)

I am going to TRY my BEST to keep you all in the same country at the least. I cannot promise anything beyond that. If you "want" to ship international that is fine.

4:) Once you join this event, You have until I pm you to decide if you "still" want to be a part of this. Once I give you the address of the person you are to send your gift to you are locked in and only under special circumstances will you be allowed to drop out.

5:) I must mention that if you choose to. You are not entitled to accept any gifts. Obviously I cannot force people to hand over their home address. You can still participate you just wont get anything in return. However, if it becomes a problem one person MAY have to hand over a address, or you will have to be dropped from participating.

6:) Understand that this is based SOLELY ON TRUST. Should you choose to be an _____ . You will find that you are ruining your reputation here AND will not be allowed to join the next event like this.

I think that is all? Does everyone agree on some of these terms and have anything to add?

Does it have to be laser related or is electronics related OK?

EDIT: Also, maybe the ability to request low powered only lasers? I dont like high powered lasers :D

Maybe to avoid the useless items such as that one ugly clothing item that seems to make it into your presents there could be a board of some kind to just precheck what's being sent out to avoid the things that will just be thrown away. :p
That may save some trouble to avoid those _____ who only expect to hopefully recieve a nice gift.

This sounds fun count me in.

I remember the great LPF raffle of 09. Completely different idea but still had random gifts/prizes. IIRC We had a few members who almost left LPF after being so disappointed with their prizes.

Everybody needs to promise they will not get bent out of shape with whatever gift they receive.
If we do secret santa we should keep what we give, and receive a secret.
Remember we all come from different economics. Someones' value of $50 may be $20 to someone else.

I don't think i said it ever has to be laser related ;)

Cam453, I think it would be impossible to limit what people can send. I could make an endless list of things I don't want. The idea behind this is... You are essentially donating that gift to someone on the forum out of kindness and expecting nothing in return. Yes you are going to get something in return but you are trying to make the next person happy :). If i send you a tee shirt and you dont like it... its not because it was my intentions to send something you dont like.... its the thought that you might like it. Thats why its a surprise :).

Point is, Dont get your expectations up. They will only let you down.

Remember guys. If you are worried about what you may get.... you are not entitled to join. Hell I will take some burnt wire! It will remind me of the person who actually thought I would like burnt wire lol

Can I be your secret santa? :san:

Just think. I could send burnt wire and the shipping from here would cover the spending limits j/k

I think anything laser/science/electronic/HV or simular gifts should be OK.

The whole point of this is to not be cheesy. This is an opportunity to do something nice for an almost complete stranger. In turn something nice is done for you. It only works if we all participate. Unfortunately a limit must be set, because there is always one in the crowd that screws it up. But its not about the monetary value, its about the thought put into it. Gift cards, mugs, ect are not thoughtful. Giving something from the heart will always be more valuable, even if it costs $1.

Are you going to pull names from a hat Jeff.

BTW I was talking about FlaminPyro when I made the pipe bomb joke.

I agree with what TJ said about it being science/electronic/laser/HV related. I plan on sending a few small laser items (right now im thinking maybe a driver, a lower powered green module, a keychain host, possibly a soc red, etc.) and it would be nice to get something similar in return. IE not a coffee mug.

At the start of this thread it seemed kinda what he had in mind was to give an older laser you don't use and then you will receive another persons older laser and hopefully find more use in it than they did.

I also agree that actual monetary value doesn't always matter. I found this cool little flashlight at kmart for $3 and in about ten minutes on the drill press I can turn it into an awesome keychain laser host. So I only paid $3 for it but now it is (to me at least) worth a whole lot more.

Oh, I thought you were referring to my old avatar.... which is me at work making mortars :p http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk98/jeffreythe00/IMG_20110419_110122.jpg

Names will be completely random. I suppose the old hat trick will work. I am going to let my sister/3rd party randomize everything and I will get a list of who was picked in return excluding who got me. (Because that would be cheating! :tsk: ) She also will pm the person (under my username) who got me as to not let me know. She does not know any of you with the exception of mariomaster who visited my house this summer.

While in theory I agree wholeheartedly... in reality I think there are some conflicts where some people might not want to deal with others.

Fortunately I'm pretty sure there are very few such situations.

Speaking of pipe bombs... haven't made one since I was nine:tinfoil:

I assume you are talking to me.

Some of you really have no clue who I am. Do you really think some forum drama would change my character? I would help you, and all the other idiots who are on the hate wagon, in a second if needed. I dont hold any grudges on anyone. If I drew you I'd send you something nice, just like I would anyone else. My original statement was a joke, as is half of what I say. You'd think you'd figure this out by now.
