Default Re: LPF's Religion

40 pages, almost 1000 posts so far. This is a topic no one finishes. The arguments will continue. Those who believe in God* will always be ridiculed, and those who don't will always fire back.

Origins and mysteries, their questions from Science and religions, will always bring about these arguments and more questioning. Eventually, we'll all know the answers. No human, even though the arguments often tout perceived knowledge or another's apparent lack of "proof", knows any of these things to be false, or one way wrong and another not.

In God's vast universe (micro to macro), not one of our feeble minds can know, or rightfully state, that another is foolish for his beliefs. There is way too much to know, and we can't handle it in this form. The only way we would never have such discussions as these is if we knew the answers. That end-all knowledge is too much to comprehend. That, my friends, is where simple Faith comes about. Without it, we can easily denounce that which we don't believe. With it, we can ponder the questions with wonder and appreciation.

*Or whatever name your belief system gives Him.

Yeah, but they have to read ALL of it. Most only read the parts that their leaders tell them to. Don't want to be exposing oneself to the whole truth now would one?

Besides, you know that they aren't allowed to read pron.

Just for a "blasphemous" (but not seriously ) response to this ..... correct me if i'm wrong, but the ones that was following the Bible more literally and with more faith, was not the same ones that have invented the "Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith" (formerly known as "inquisition" ), and the "ordalia processes" ? (just for cite two of the funniest things they invented, cause a complete list cannot, probably, be contained in a single post )

And, before you ask, no, i'm not atheist, i'm christian (more or less )

Default Re: LPF's Religion

wouldn't want all you wiccans to feel left out...

Wicca differs from many other religions by its emphasis on: The feminine as being at least as important as the masculine,The importance of preserving the environment,Moral behavior as determined largely by the individual,Positive attitudes towards human ***uality as a gift of the Goddess, andThe passage of the seasons.
A follower of Wicca is called a Wiccan. Wicca and other Neopagan religions are currently experiencing a rapid growth in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. In the U.S., the number of Wiccans is doubling about every 18 months. Growth is particularly obvious among some teenagers, who are rejecting what they feel is the autocracy, paternalism, ***ism, homophobia, and insensitivity to the environment that forms part of the conservative wings of some of the larger religions. Many North Americans of European descent, who are keen to discover their ancestral heritage, are also attracted to this religion.
Origin of Wicca:

Depending upon how you look at Wicca, it is either one of the newest or one of the oldest religions in the world:
Wicca is a recently created, Earth centered, Neopagan religion. The various branches of Wicca can be traced back to Gardnerian Witchcraft which was founded in the UK during the late 1940s.Wicca is based on the symbols, seasonal days of celebration, beliefs and deities of ancient Celtic society. Added to this material were Masonic and ceremonial magickal components from recent centuries. In this respect, it is a religion whose roots go back almost three millennia to the formation of Celtic society circa 800 BCE.
About deities:

Depending upon one's point of view, Wicca can be considered a monotheistic, duotheistic, polytheistic, henotheistic, or atheistic religion, Hang onto your hat; this gets a bit complicated:
Wicca is monotheistic (belief in a single deity): Some Wiccans recognize a single supreme being, sometimes called "The All" or "The One." The Goddess and God are viewed as the female and male aspects of this single deity.Wicca is duotheistic (belief in two deities; a.k.a. rarely as bitheistic): Wiccans often worship a female Goddess and a male God., often called the Lady and Lord.Wicca is polytheistic (belief in many deities): Many Wiccans recognize the existence of many ancient Gods and Goddesses, including but certainly not limited to: Aphrodite, Artemis, Briget, Diana, Dionysius, Fergus, Hecate, Isis, Pan, Thor, etc. Wicca is henotheistic (belief in a single main deity among many):Many Wiccans view the many ancient deities as being aspects of the Lady and Lord, and view the latter as the male and female aspects of "The One." Wicca is atheistic (no belief in a deity or deities): Some Wiccans view the God and Goddess as symbols, not as living entities. Depending upon which definition of the term "Atheist" that you adopt, these Wiccans may be considered Atheists.
Terminology:

Terms relating to Wicca are confusing, as they are with so many other religions:
Wiccans often refer to themselves as Neopagans. The term "Neopagan" includes all faith groups which are based on attempted reconstruction of ancient, extinct religions. However, not all Neopagans are Wiccans. The umbrella term "Neopagan" includes followers of many other earth-centered faith traditions, including Druidism, and Asatru.Wiccans often refer to themselves as Pagans. Unfortunately, this term has at least six different meanings, some of which are rather negative. "Pagan" is often used as a general-purpose snarl word to attack others. In its positive sense, Paganism includes Neopaganism as well as many other religions. Some Wiccans consider Wicca and Witchcraft to be synonyms. Others differentiate between Wicca, which they view to be a religion, and Witchcraft, which they perceive to be the practice of magick. Under this definition, Witchcraft is not a religion and thus can be performed by members of any religion. Most Wiccans practice magick. However, some do not and concentrate on the spirituality of the Wiccan religion.

ALL HALE THE STONE

heres another Praise the moon lol!
The Cherokees had a strong belief that there were certain beings who came down from the skies formed the world, the moon and the stars. It was believed that the world was created at the time of the new moon of autumn, when the fruits of the earth were ripe.

In the Cherokee religion the sun appears to have been the pricipal object of worship. The Cherokee's would pray to the sun to bring abundant crops and good health. The Cherokee Indians held a festival called the new Moon Festival in which they paid hnor to the moon.

The following is an excerpt about the Cherokee Indian Religion: The moon was also considered to be important in religion and at every New Moon Festival special honor was paid to the moon. Fire was supposed to have been appointed by the sun and the moon to take care of mankind. It was considered as being intermediate to the sun and the smoke is symbolized as the messenger of the fire that would make known the petitions of the people to the sun. The Cherokees believed the morning star was once a wicked priest who killed people by witchcraft. When the Indians planned to kill him, he took all his shining crystals and flew away to the sky where he appeared as the morning star ever after.
(excerpt source)

The Cherokees believed in an after life and those who had behaved in a "good" manner went toa place that was light and pleasant. Those who had behaved poorly would be sent to a bad place and face torture. It was believed there were seven heavens, with the Supreme Being residing in the first heaven.

Exactly, they recommend reading it. But do they? That's the real question

And the conversations with Dave usually go like this:

<daguin> Hey Niko, wanna come over to eat a bowl of cereal and play with argons?
<Niko> Sure thing, man. Just lemme hop on my ChuckJet and I'll fly over there.

EDIT: Also, nutritionists recommend eating cereal, bread, meat, pasta and drinking liquids, everything that contains the needed amount of vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, etc. (to add up to an approximate 2000kcal per day diet) every single day. But... do we?

True....but I'm not speaking as a Jew, if I had said "kohanim" some might not have known of whom I was refereing. (safeguard from the WTF? response)

My personal belief is, there is a creator (call it what you like), I have read alot of the bible which has some contradictory passages (leaves more questions than answers), I never criticize another's belief (or lack of), I enjoy learning other religions, beliefs and theories.

I was raised a Christian, as I got older I wandered how Cain started his own tribe... it was all down hill from there.

And there are MANY new versions of the "bible" being used

. . . . And each and every one of them are the "inspired words of god."

You'd think an all-knowing, all-powerful god could be more effective at inspiring his ghost writers.

@ Jander-o -- If you haven't noticed I am an equal opportunity offender. Although I admit I have not gottren around to ALL of them. As I have stated before, Xtians and Mooslims are just more fun because they get all red in the face and spew spittle so quickly

Guess I need to offend some Santerians or Candomble's , eh?

Peace,

Talking Re: LPF's Religion

Heheh ..... "Catholics" are really a reductive way to say it, considering their fantasy in making different branches .....

Maronites, Orthodox, Protestants, Roman/Latine (the ones commonly defined Christians, divided themselves in Ordinary, Extraordinary, Anglicans, Mozarabics, Ambrosians, Bragans, Dominicans, Carmelites, Carthusians), Traditionals, Conservative, Eastern (part of the Orthodox), Old Catholics (scismatic), Uniates (also a branch of Orthodox), Chaldeans (Syryan branch, divided in East and West ones), Alexandrians ..... then the various "new Christians" movements of the last times, the Childrens of God, the Third Church, Valdeans, The Fifth Church of Christ Cosmonaut (no, i'm not joking, there's really a branch of Christians that predicate that Christ was an alien cosmonaut, and that they are the official representative of his fifth church ..... they only never say what happened to the four previous ones ), and so on, i don't know all the new ones

And i'm pretty sure that i have forgot at least half of the currents and churches that call themselves "Catholics" ..... well, perhaps that, being Catholic, you have a large opportunities of choice, about what you want to be .....
