I mean I don't believe in any gods and buddhists don't believe in any gods either, but I do like the way how they respect living things and how they try not to live in the past or future but focus on here and now.
However, I'm not a buddhist myself.

Default Re: LPF's Religion

I'm a non-denominational Christian.

Why? Loopholes.

They teach the Big Bang in schools. So... there had to be some sort of catalyst, right? They say there was 'dark matter'. Ok. Neat. Also very cryptic and nondescript. Can they prove that it was there initially? And why did it decide to explode? And how the hell DID life piece itself together after that? They sure never gave me the answers to those questions in school.

They also teach macroevolution. (micro too, but that's already happening in visible ways, so it's not a big deal.) Fun. It seems interesting and plausible enough on the surface, but really? I think it's both brilliant and dumb at the same time. Kinda like fail pictures. If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes? If we could survive just fine at a certain stage in being, why did we evolve away from that? Why isn't there any visible evidence of it happening? For that last one, they came up with neo-darwinism and natural selection. Neo-darwinism (at least when I was taught it) said that basically, we evolved in several very short time periods. Do they say WHY? not really. So, from my standpoint, it seems like that was just something a scientist came up with to cover the rest of the community's ass, when that particular gap was discovered. Now for natural selection. that makes more sense than the rest of them, at least to me. - however, take the woodpecker for example. it's got a lot of weird things about it. It's spastically long tongue, it's shock-resistant brain, it's very strange way of getting food... etc etc. There would have been no reason at all for it to develop all of those at once... so we could say that natural selection was at fault. Well, if each of those traits developed seperately over quite a long time, how would the species have survived? And if it had another way of surviving, why would it end up needing to develop those traits? it doesn't make sense.

Wow, that turned into a rant... basically, I don't think that atheism, agnosticism, or any other non-religion makes sense... and I'm not particularly fond of the other religions.

(and yes, I'm a sucker for a good argument. That could be why I posted all that monstrosity. if you think my above statements are wrong, PM me with a good face-slapping. )

Wait what? :-?

I think I can decide if I'm a sucker for a good argument... since it's ME we're talking about, I think I can handle taking on the responsibility.

And I really should have said Debate instead of argument... I'm just interested in hearing other viewpoints outside of my own... and that wasn't meant to be provocative or anything - I'm just saying that if someone really doesn't think what I'm saying is correct or accurate, and wants to make known to me why they don't, I'm open to it. I'm not here for a fight either, I'm just sayin'. :P

Oh and I'm a journalist, too. if you take that as an explanation, you get a cookie and an internet.

Default Re: LPF's Religion

Here is what I believe. In the beginning all was at unity than one became many. This one is beyond all time and thought, it simultaneously exists in none and all.

The many fractions of the one experience simultaneously an independent existence and a longing to merge again with the one that is their source. At times it does manifest in our mind, those that accept it become spiritual in nature, those who reject it become demonic in nature. Spiritual and demonic are transient states, it is possible for one to go from demonic to saintly and saintly to demonic. Those that let go of and accept the temporary nature of our worldly existence and merge with it's energy become divine. Saintly souls like Jesus the Christ, Buddha, Mohammad and Krishna among countless others. Different methodologies but all have the same end, this is to find and realize god. Once the chaff is sifted away this is the common theme that is often lost due to limitations of our language and the will of man to impose control for the temporary illusion of personal benefit. The truth is?

Ask one question of yourself: Who am I? Now you are dead- Of all the things you thought of how much of it no longer matters? All these states are temporary- so who are you? Think on this, Only God has the ability to manifest things into existence, yet every day we manifest things in our mind never before known to nature, and sometimes manifest theses things into reality using the properties of what we know of our limited transient reality. Therefore our mind must contain the essence of God. What is it that can survive death, undestroyed? A soul? A soul is... energy. This energy is... consciousness itself. Consciousness is the element that is the quintessential building block of all things. Consciousness is thus the nature of God.

The one thing all governments of the world have in common are policies designed to prevent one from meditation on the question Who am I. The reason they do this is that they fear change and loss of control to support their delusion. Some ban all religious practices outright, some only ban the express route via LSD like drugs. Interestingly they are both routes to the same end, but by polar opposite in methodology. Religious meditation shows you by revealing what Consciousness IS directly, LSD like drugs by showing you what Consciousness IS NOT by temporarily destroying the ego. Religious meditation is slow and gradual, drugs are about as gentle as 2x4 to the forehead.

It may be the reason our world is so "bad" is simply that we are ignorant that we are manifestations of divine Consciousness, some let their minds be ruled by fear, and some seek to continue this illusion that we are purely material. In short as we believe, so we become. Let Go, Let God, and Love one another.

Think on these things

The reason I am in the 'agnostic' category, is because we just don't know. Could I be convinced of any one religion if concrete evidence was found? Of course. We know a great deal about our planet and ourselves, but in terms of the universe we are clueless. We think we know how the universe came to be, but what was before it? There are so many things I could bring up on this subject but the easiest way to say it is 'we dont know'. I consider myself a man of science and therefore will not completely rule out any possibility unless we have concrete evidence for or against it.

I kinda sorta believe in god, but not like religions depict it. I believe there's one out there maybe, but i don't believe god will help us in any way (even in religion this is true, FREE WILL). Then there's still something very problematic with the whole god concept... WHO MADE GOD? all in all i don't care. we just exist; end of story. Also we need stop wasting billions of dollars trying to figure this crap out! Even if we do find out how the universe started, who the hell cares? All you did was waste a bunch of money so you can learn a useless fact and add a page to our science books :
