Definitely a bet, but not friendly one at that.

God DID set boundaries for Satan. First off, God told him that he cannot touch Job himself, but all of Jobs things, he could kill any destroy. Then when Job proved still loyal to God, God set the bar higher and allowed the devil to harm Job, but did not allow Job to be killed.

God was proving a point to the Devil. And o boy did he get it across. He tested Job because He knew his heart. Read the story yourself, whether you're a Christian or not, its a great story!

WOW! You make the point wonderfully. The human mind can rationalize ANYTHING!

Jehova was (is) a vindictive, petty, tyrant. He set up a situation KNOWING what the outcome was going to be and then had the audacity to express his displeasure with the outcome that HE had pre-determined.

At ANY moment, now or at any time in the past, your god could have "fixed" this entire problem he set up with humans. However, he chooses not to. He is either not all powerful and is unable to do so or he wants the majority of the humans in the world to go to hell to suffer a wailing and a gnashing of teeth for all of eternity.

Oh Wait! I remember -- He is a mystery

There is nothing mysterious about it except why anyone would follow him except out of fear. I would choose a kinder master.

I know that I have probably over-reacted to this condescending drivel. Perhaps you should stick to working with children and the mentally infirm.

You obviously have no idea who I am in order to recommend that I read the scriptures. Instead of operating from your personal prejudices, try reading enough to know who you are talking to.

Peace,
dave

Whoa! I know who you are in respect to lasers.. and believe me, I've got a lot of respect for you there!

At least you've acknowledged his existence.. But it seems you don't like him (your creator) very much. That's fine of course, its just that many people don't either.

Let me ask you something.

What is the point of anything that happens... if it is apart from the glory of God? What if God wasn't there? Whats the point of life? Of love? Of lasers?

Not to ask rhetorically.. I just want to know what you would would answer to that.

With Respect,

Tyler

nikokapo, be careful with that, you know that reading /b/ will melt your brain, and it usually stings when that happens :-P Although one has to admit those quotes are hilarious and very much to the point. Anyone care to pick one at random and answer it from their side?
Hehe, /b/ is the place to go for this kinds of stuff. You'd think that there's only pr0n, gore and CP in there but there are lots (and I do really mean LOTS) of great minds on /b/, physicists, doctors and many people you wouldn't even imagine are lurking /b/ (yes I'm serious). From time to time some excellent threads where true discussion (apart from mudkpiz and fsjal) is made and these quotes come from them

My mind hasn't melted...yet.

first of all, where is your proof that Jesus had long hair? Where is your proof that he was white? Or black? The Bible, nor any other historical document describes the appearance of Jesus.
Exactly! Jesus never existed!

Quote:
BUT for your sake, lets pretend that we know Jesus had LONG hair. Lets say... half a meter long!
I don't really care about jesus, but all chrstians draw him with long hair so they must at least think "he" "had" long hair.

Quote:
But when Jesus came, and died for us, he wiped away the need for Jewish law as the way to heaven.
Oh yeah, along with the other +300 religions that already existed.

People seem to think that there are only 3 religions, judaism, christianism and islam and "the others".

Quote:
I would choose a kinder master.
I'd choose daguin... but I already chose Chuck Norris

Quote:
So even IF Jesus is discovered to have had long hair, the message of the Bible once again, never changes. It once again, is proved flawless.

Doesn't matter, I'm not talking about what "good" there is in your bible. I'm talking about contradiction which was what you asked for.

Suppose you read a math book and it says that 2+2 = 5.
BUT then it teaches you how to solve limits, integrals, triple integrals, how to draw scalar fields, etc. correctly.

Would you just dismiss the fact that it positively said that 2+2=5?

I know I wouldn't (provided it's not a typo, of course).

Why do I even try? I have not acknowledged his existence. I was simply using verbiage you would accept to attempt to get you to actually think rather than simply parroting back your dogma.

In my belief system, one imaginary friend is as good as any other imaginary friend. I don't "dislike" my "creator." I don't need a creator to make my life worth living.

The passion was NOT against your god. It was against your pompous assumption that I simply did not know the scriptures. I probably understand them better than you do. However, you have chosen to enter this discussion late in the game and have neglected to understand who was included in it. Your simplistic belief that ANYONE would come to the same conclusions you do by reading the scriptures is immature at best.

My answer to your red herring question ("What is the point . . .?") has been posted more than once and in recent memory. If you are unwilling or unable to read back through the postings then you will have to do without understanding my paradigm.

So let me ask you more clearly, is your god unable to fix the problem (he created) or is he unwilling to fix the problem?

Peace,
dave

Ok so you didn't acknowledge his existence.. my mistake.

Ok so you might know the scriptures better than I. I make the suggestion "Read the passage", to many, all the time. I can't assume you will get the same thing I do out of it, but whenever I go back and just re-read scripture, I'm always able to pull something new out of it. Whether that new thing is the same as yours doesn't matter, its just that going back to re-read can do good for anyone. But if it hurts you to, I'm sorry I suggested it.

And, I'm unwilling to go back through these 28 pages to find out if that same question was asked because I'm sure it has. But if it had ever been addressed specifically to you, no, I didn't not run back through the pages to see if you were asked the same thing. I must not have been there at the time.

Alright, so you say you don't need a creator to make you life worth living. That's great for you, but is it that way for everyone else? Does everyone else have to opportunities to make their life as worth it as yours? What do those others live for? Do they then not deserve life because they don't have it as easy as you and I?

If you answer yes, then I'm sorry.

If you answer no, then why?

Is God unable or unwilling?

Seeing as he's all sovereign, he is more than able.

Seeing as he loves us, and has plans for us to prosper us, then he is definitely willing. What are you waiting for? Do you expect God make all of OUR decisions for us? Of course not! He has given us life, and not only that, but a free will! He has given each and every one of us the chance (not opportunity) to make that decision in our lives.

Hes giving us a chance to give ourselves up for something better, something bigger. The chance to live for some purpose other than those of our own! He is coming to take care of the problem once and for all. When, I cannot tell because all he told us was, "soon".

I'm not here to argue. Arguments go on forever and never leave a final word. I'm just doing my best to show others, the things I learned. This is the thread to do it in! Whether anyone hear accepts what I learned as truth, or as an attack on their freedom from faith is no matter to me. That's between them and somebody else who cares! I'm here presenting my case for anyone who asks about it. Poke fun at me, and prod like you do to the other Christians here on the forum as you will, but know that I intend no harm on anyone here, nor do I intend to down talk anyone by suggesting they read the scriptures (whether they have already or not).

My apologies Daguin,

Tyler

Lol I think my aunt is christian but she got pissed yesterday. Reading the bible to children and it was something like and Abraham told his wife go make dinner. Ahhh her reaction was quite funny.

BTW again I'm an atheist, no pastafarianism. Though I have deep respect for many religions. The faith some Muslims has frightens and impresses me.

Haha oh really? Do you know that? Or is that what you think?

Please try to refrain from placing me amongst those who actually do so.

I've found my point in life. Its bigger than those having to do with the "things" and stuff of this place! It not going to die either! I'm living my own, but what about you?

Have you found your niche for your short time here on Earth?

Well just to see people so motivated (not terrorists I'm talking like poor iranians or palestinians) really opens my eyes. Their faith in god will lead them to do insane feats of courage.

Basically my belief is just do good and good will happen to you. Or just do good. I don't think anyone can argue with that.

I do see what you mean..
its a fairly common view as well!

Doing good is always good! But why do you choose to do good? Is it so that you receive goodness back?

Why do good people die? Why do they still suffer as others do?

I'm NOT attacking you or your view, I'm wanting to hear your answer.

Thanks!
