See, there is even a forum just like ours: theflatearthsociety.org - Index and some more details on the big wiki. Please give me the Verse that says that the earth is flat. Verse and Version of the Bible please. I haven't seen this one.

Also, I can't believe that people still think that it's flat. That's hillarious.

Cool Re: LPF's Religion

Humans are spiritual...would you agree?

there are emotions involved in living a life... would you agree ^.

passion to do what one wants/needs that compulsion to finish a masterpiece.

To write that timeless poem. To dream that symphony. Of all things

to love. This seems to be the whole point to living. Besides breathing

eating, and of course defecation what would humans do.

Some people are more passionate about life than others... more motivated

to do what pleases them. If love is the most dominate trait to some(I

know me)what happens if that love is lost early in life for example...

You suffer immensely until you love again and then those feeling come back

and recycles again.

My point is that tech>< science and all are earthly... these things are like

you stated reality ... this is a great thread it is fun to correspond

w/people across the world. Good enlightening views

I believe truly that if I live my life spiritually and how I want in

faithfulness to the lord I will be rewarded by going to Heaven and being

w/ the ones I love. Others belive this also... I know what you'r thinking

I hope you can respect that... it takes all types of views to make the

world and this one is mine Thanks for reading and have a good day.

Here is a little poem cause life is about more than the internet and lasers

Heavenly Grass

My feet took a walk in heavenly grass.
All day while the sky shone clear as glass.
My feet took a walk in heavenly grass,
All night while the lonesome stars rolled past.
Then my feet come down to walk on earth,
And my mother cried when she give me birth.
Now my feet walk far and my feet walk fast,
But they still got an itch for heavenly grass.
But they still got an itch for heavenly grass.

I'm going to get "rational" on y'all for a bit. Then I'm going back to simply being irreverent

There are three "human" processes that "require" that some have a belief in a "higher being."

FIRST, humans have a very deep seated fear of the "unknown and/or unknowable." We are basically afraid of the dark. This fear is "hard wired" into our brains. It helped (and helps) us survive as a species. When we are a child, it is OK to be afraid of the dark. However, once we reach puberty (or before) it is no longer OK to be afraid of the dark . . . . but we still are, aren't we. So we invent wonderfully scary stories to "explain" why it is OK to fear the dark. EVERY culture in the world has a "boogeyman." (chupacabra, mothman, monkeyman, dragons, ghosts, zombies, fairies, satan, bealzibub, etc) Do these things exist, of course not. However, they allow us to live with our fear of the dark.

SECOND, the human brain is incapable of imagining being "dead." Our brains can only "imagine" what stimuli it will receive and how we would perceive and react to those stimuli. To be devoid of stimuli is unimagineable. To cope, we "imagine" what it will "feel" like after there are no more stimuli incoming. Just reading that sentence should give you an understanding of the impossibility of that task! The brain can only imagine how it will "feel" so it builds a "reality" for what it will experience after it dies. Add this to the fear of the unknown and you get heaven and hell.

THIRD, the brain has a section of it dedicated to "ecstasy" (the emotion not the drug) Do a Google search for "god in the brain" to read about the research in this area. When this "god center" is stimulated, we experience a disassociative (out of body) feeling of "oneness" with the universe. Most people who have had the "god center" intentionally stimulated report a "religious experience." Most religions have rituals that force a response from this area (fasting, self flagellation, extended prayer, chanting, meditating, hallucinagenics, etc.)

"Religion" it would seem is inescapable. However, just as we can learn to walk without fear in the night, we can learn how to accept that we are simply very successful animals. The problem with that is that then EVERYONE would have to make the best they could out of the meager ~70 years we all have. We humans are also NOT very big on self responsibility.

Enjoy what little time you have. Tell others you love them. Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.

When the dog tells you that other people are wrong, we put you in a mental institution. When the god tells you that others are wrong, we give you a funny hat and a title.

I end this as I end all of my written communications . . . .

Peace,
dave

I was only slightly serious in my post, it was mostly a tongue-in-cheek quip. For what it's worth though, I really do feel that refusing to teach evolution in schools and teaching ID instead *is* indeed backwards, and you have to admit there's parallel between damning darwin and rejecting the scientific fact of evolution, and the persecution of galileo for going against the church and saying the earth revolves around the sun. It's pretty medieval.

THIS

...is completely right. I second this fully.

I can't explain this with words only, but I think it's incredible how SCHOOLS (places of SCIENCE) actually teach ID and children are forced to study it. What I hate the most about it is the same old excuse "Let's teach them both and let them decide".

That's like "Hey, well...look kids, 1+1 = 2.......BUT if you invoke the power of Cheesus 1+1 = 3....but HEY, you decide which one looks right to you!"

Do people seriously still think that they can fall off of the edge of the earth? Literally?

There absolutely are people who still believe this. Of course there also absolutely are people that believe that there are beings living inside our "hollow" earth and that the access to the hollow center is at the north pole (which I believe Santa Claus guards for them).

However, the "Flat Earth Society" is a "tongue-in-cheek" name for a group of skeptics

yep, except his premises are wrong, the choices are not just God or no God,
there could be other gods, in which case, if you believe in the wrong one, you'll still be screwed, or the other gods will save you no matter what.

so his wager to believe in God is logically invalid.

btw according to michael shermer's book "why people believe in weird things", 40% of surveyed US citizens believe God created the universe and life, 49% believed that God facilitated the creation of the universe and life, and 9 percent believed God is not involved.
99% of scientists believe God is not involved, though there may be some religious scientists (religious, but not creationists)

wishful thinking would be a good way to summarize religions.

Do i want to live forever in happiness instead of perish like any other living thing after death? sure.
Do i want to see myself as purposely designed by a super-awesome creator? that'd be nice.
Do i want to have a 7-coloured light sabre as a pocketknife in heaven? hell yea (no puns intended)

but seriously, a 7-coloured light sabre

so his wager to believe in God is logically invalid.

btw according to michael shermer's book "why people believe in weird things", 40% of surveyed US citizens believe God created the universe and life, 49% believed that God facilitated the creation of the universe and life, and 9 percent believed God is not involved.
99% of scientists believe God is not involved, though there may be some religious scientists (religious, but not creationists)
That means there would be infinite choices that would lead to a double negative

But there ARE infinite choices. The problem with this is that with infinite choices eventually some damn fool will try to divide by zero.

You KNOW what will happen then, don't you ?

That's right!

Eternal damnation for the lot of us

Everyone knows that only Chuck can divide by zero

Peace,
dave

OH! BTW . . . .
