Atheism is not a belief in any one thing, as theism is. There is not much to build up.

Primarily it is just a rejection of theism. It is the desire to question the world as we perceive it, and as it actually reacts, rather than accept a version of it as dictated by a theistic dogma.

I could see that point for an agnostic, but as an atheist the rejection of the possibility deities must be based off something.

@Duke

*Rejection of theistic deities. For example an atheist doesn't reject the notion that our universe may be populated with one or many beings who are incredibly advanced and god like to our perception.

At the same time an atheists or agnostic would reject the notion that these beings care in the least what we do, and an atheist will also fully reject the notion that these beings are gods.

Isn't an agnostic "One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism." - Wouldn't it be possible for one to be skeptical about the "notion that these beings care in the least what we do" rather than just reject it?

As an atheist that specifically believes in the "rejection of theistic deities". How is it that "beings who are incredibly advanced and god like" isn't rejected but Jesus is?

I suppose it's a question of the degree of care. Do I care about the bee hive and the bees that well in it? Or the ants in an anthill I drove by on the highway going 70? I know they exist, I've observed a few firsthand, but does that constitute care?

I expect we would be treated in much the same way by any sufficiently advanced beings, except with an even greater degree of separation.

Let me ask you this... millions of bacteria reside on your hands right now... do you care about them? Why do you think some deity cares anymore about us? Don't know about you, but I'll be washing my hands shortly regardless of what they do.

It's rational. I see the way we progress as a species, and the way other species progress, evolve, and adapt, and I can't help but think that we're not the only ones who have become sentient in the universe (at least what we know of it) and that those species might have had more time than we have to evolve, and to change through sentient cooperative effort.

Jesus never even bothers to mention the possibility of other beings out there, or address the most basic scientific principles that have allowed us to progress. If he was such a deity his goal would seem to be quite a sinister one. More likely he was a myth, a hodgepodge of other stories that predated him, and were used to give people something to believe in, at a time when very little of the physical universe was understood.

Let me ask you a question, I reject Jesus, what's your rational for rejecting Buddha?

What about Mohammed?

Scientology?

How about the flying ********* monster?

Duke, even though the site you posted has a lot of rational content, I noticed yesterday, several articles that really seemed far off. I'll see if I can find them.

On the other hand, this is is far fetched.

I will make time for your questions if you'd like, but for my own sake. We're you acknowledging the possibility that Jesus could be divine?

Maybe all the atheists on here should start boycotting paper money, and use only bit coin, because paper money says, "In God We Trust."

Edit: Also, I don't remember hearing that the philosopher, Plato, was around in in 400's BB (Before Buddah). I do remember hearing he was born in the 400's BC (Before Christ)

No, I completely reject any notion of divinity.

That said, I do not reject the possibility that one or more individuals may have existed, and that the story of Jesus as we now know it is attributed to them.

In the same way that Achilles, Daedalus, Jason, Hector, Odysseus, etc,. were probably based in some way on a warping of a real story, and real events, or are an amalgam of existing myths.

Here is a question for you. Place yourself in the position of one of our ancestors. You have language and social skills, probably some form of physical trade, maybe a basic (by our standard) grasp of mathematics.

How would you react to attending a show by David Blaine or another similar performer?

How do you react to such a performance now, given your currently knowledge?

LOL

That's like saying you shouldn't use the calendar because the months and days are named after gods YOU don't believe in. (Well, maybe you do believe in them...but, feel free to explain if you feel the need)

I think Buddha was supposed to have died somewhere around 400 BC at the age of ~ 80, and Plato around 347 BC, also at a ripe old age, so, there's a good chance they were alive at ~ the same time. (Plato's dates are pretty well known, its Buddha's that are fuzzy)

All atheism is, is not believing in gods. Essentially, I merely believe in ONE FEWER god than you do.

Monotheism - One = Atheism.

The same reason you probably don't believe in the other people's gods, is why I don't believe in yours.

Whatever your reason for rejecting ALL of those other people's gods is, can probably be summed up by the same reason's they rejected yours, and so forth.

You believe that what you were raised with was correct, just like they were...so, ALL of you believe YOUR god is the right one (And that the rest are wrong).

So, if there is a god, other than what you are told, why do YOU believe that yours be the ONLY one?

Isn't it just believing because you believe, with no real basis for it other than that?

Could that same "belief" just as easily have been in the "Intelligent Design" by Allah? Or Zeus?

How would YOU tell the difference?

To be fair your currency is rather outdated, the USA hasn't kept up with modern bank notes that the rest of the world use.

Canada just released a new series in 2011, it features Canadian accomplishments in technology and exploration

Because its possible that there are beings out there who either have been around longer than us, or evolved faster and developed advanced technologies faster than us. Their advanced technology might allow them to do things we would consider "God-like", but they would still be flash and blood that grew and evolved like we do.

And they definitely weren't around before the big bang.

The idea of God/Jesus is that they have inherent supernatural abilities without the use of technology, are immortal, and have existed and will exist as long as time itself, and that they have always existed in the state they are in now and have never had to evolve, grow, or change.

Our money is hella awesome. US bills are still that faded green color aren't they? XD

Did I mention our money smells like maple syrup? (when its new, the smell does eventually fade)

Really? How about you look into when that stupid phrase was added, because it is most certainly not what our country was founded with.

Also, by that same token, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER. No seriously, it's the product of science, not religion. Do you not think it is therefore a sin to use it?

Going further, were you and your parents to have completely rejected modern medicine, you probably would not even be alive. So... why are you still here accepting the gifts of modern science and technology instead of wearing a rough simple coverall preying to god?

So... why doesn't the bible mention anything about lasers? Or vaccines? Or electricity? You accept these things, yet they are never spoken of my Jesus, or Buddha for that matter.
