It doesn't actually say that, plus, its got a lot of wrong info anyway.

The page has a warning:

List of religious populations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If we ignore the warnings, we see that for example, Estonia's separate entry:

A developed country with an advanced, high-income economy,[13] Estonia is a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. It ranks very high in the Human Development Index,[6] and performs favourably in measurements of economic freedom, civil liberties, education, and press freedom (third in the world in 2012).[14] Estonia is often described as one of the most wired countries in Europe.[15][16]

and that link purporting to show atheist proportion per education level:

Irreligious and atheist
World nonreligious population by percentage, Dentsu Institute (2006) and Zuckerman (2005)[95]

Countries with the greatest proportion of people without religion (including agnostics and atheists) from Irreligion by country (as of 2007):

Estonia 71–82% (76.5%)

So, the number 1 country for "atheists" is also ~ number 1 for most wired in Europe, and number 3 in the WORLD for its Human Development Index.

I have not been to Estonia, but, the link indicates that ~ 3/4 of the people are atheists....which, I doubt...but, again, I have not been there, so, maybe the more tech savvy a country is, the higher the proportion of atheists?

Loosely, it doesn't look like a small proportion, its a majority.

But, again, the site is not that reliable looking.

I might start looking for property in Estonia though.

I think I was thinking of it more like this:

Did you not read what Blarg King said? There is no egg.

The egg is not killed, it just was never released.

How does something die if it was never there in the first place? Please explain.

I don't see a contradiction here.
Seriously undertaking a study of the bible enables you to put things in context.
Chapter one is an overview of sorts and chapter two goes over things in more detail, expounding on the subject.
Yes God created trees over the earth in (Ch 1):

(Genesis 1:11-12) And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Now in chapter 2 ( Genesis 2:4-9) it expounds on the topic further, stating that now God planted a garden specifically for Adam.

Read the following in context and it will be clearer that now he is talking about the garden for Adam specifically (Genesis 2:9)

(Genesis 2:4-9)
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

I'm not feeling 100% atm and I'm off to bed soon so I hope I've explained it in a way that it makes sense guys. Please forgive me if it doesn't.

should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,

but that the world through Him might be saved.
“He who believes in Him is not condemned;
but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

any care to take a crack at any of the alleged contradictions I posted in #4436?

god also did a piss poor job of making ideal produce from these plants. we've had to artificially select and evolve what he gave us to start with to make them better, as ray comfort found out when he had the audacity to claim a bannana proved god's existence. he later admitted he was not aware that banannas have not existed as are until we bred them that way. natural bannanas are no where near as appealing. I personally cant watch this guy without thinking of falacio, not for me, mind you. watch the vid, you'll see.

You have made a clear and well formed reply, which I appreciate.

There are many versions of this section though, and, the conflicts were edited/smoothed over in the later versions as they noticed and tried to amend the rough spots.

The earlier manuscripts, which you would assume were "closer to the source", leave out some of the caveats, and tell the story differently.

Some can be attributed to the breathed words being misunderstood, as there were several ancient languages being translated by more modern members of the church, and, they often assumed modern values for ancient unknowns. IE: There was no "old testament" until the Church wrote it to go with their "new testament".....but, there WERE old documents and what the jews used for THEIR "bible", and, these old documents were combined to make the "old testament".

The "combining" involved significant editing to make it mesh better with the new testament....but, the "old parts" were what god was saying back then...and the new parts were edited versions of that, not god's words from back then anymore.

All the parts about Jesus being a leader of a rebellion against Rome were taken out to allow Rome to adopt the religion, so the Vatican could then be a center of power. The Church was then empowered to, as always, allow rulers to claim "Divine Right", which allowed them in turn to control the masses.

And so forth. So, yes, many contradictions were edited to either eliminate them (Entire sections of "god's word" were simply deleted), or, new ones made up (No record of them in older manuscripts that bracketed the new sections), and added to emphasize something Rome wanted, like admonitions to obey your government no matter what, and pay even more tax than asked for, for slaves to be loyal to their masters, etc.

Many contradictions are a result of the editing process, and loosing continuity, needing to make people REALLY old to account for gaps, etc.

Hold on Ped, I'm coming up with an answer.

Cyp. You must know that not all dreams are inspired by God. Some are, and that is one way he communicates with us. You would know if it was from God.

Context: Your taking it out of context. For example, if I got a Gazette newspaper, and the New York Times newspaper, and in each newspaper was a quote from the French head

of affairs. The Gazette says, "We are going to stay strong and defend against any acts of terrorism."
The New York Times says, "This is still under investigation, but we believe it is a terrorist attack."

Are you going to go and say, "Look, the two papers contradict each other because the quotes are different!" Aha!

No, you are going to look at the papers and see that they are quoting different things the guy said, not one thing.

Chapter 2 of Genesis, seems to be a more detailed account, where as chapter 1, is an overview. In chapter 1, accuracy of the organization of events is not necessary to a T,
so in my humble opinion, it seems to be that it would have been easier to write a table of contents in a brief overview, rather than to do a full account.

I hope I explained this well, this is what I thought after looking at it, but I think RB Astro did better at explaining.

@Teej-There are many "contradictions" still in the Bible that can easily be explained. They look like contradictions, but from context are not, so please bring another one forth and I'll do my best.

I thought I should say that even though it may not be kind, calling someone a moron is not calling names. It isn't telling them who they are, it's telling them what they are.

Actually, the "contradiction thing" is kind of old hat, and, the excuses are well worn. Some ARE really petty, and not worth the time, and, some are more serious, albeit, the church has massaged a lot and looked for loop holes etc...so if you want to believe it, they give an excuse to do it.

I would actually like you to go to the prior conception charts, and tell me where YOU PERSONALLY feel "conception" occurred in the process.

I think that's a more interesting starting point, because its a philosophical discussion.

Wait a second. We're discussing contradictions in the Bible?

*headdesk*

Ok, now I'm joining in. Well, we'll see.

I see you have conveniently dodged the majority of points in Cyparagon's post. Can you answer them on a quote-by-quote basis, black and white so we can all see?
