That's why I chose not to believe in something like Islam and many other religion have problems too. For example, Mormons. They've got their roots by a guy named Joseph Smith, a moron w
ho said he uncovered tablets, which he most likely placed their himself, and translated to old English which wasn't even used at the time. He said he was a prophet of God who was told to start a new church in the new world.........and the crap talk goes on.
Jesus on the other hand said he was God, and had some miracles for proof to back it up. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure their are no miracles that "Allah" has done.
.
There is nothing more entertaining than a member of one religion pointing fingers at other religions mocking them as being false when they all have the same lack of evidence to support all their claims.

Don't kid yourself kid. You are not a Christian because your parents taught you about all of the worlds faiths and you CHOSE Christianity. You are a Christian because you were indoctrinated to be one. Nothing more.

I love the reasoning of why Islam is "bad" in your o so insightful indoctrinated immature mind. Because the Prophet Mohammed went from town to town slaying the inhabitants. Oh... you mean like the vast majority of the Old Testament in which your loving creator commanded his faithful to kill everyone, smash the infants against the rocks, cut open the pregnant women and tear out their growing babies, slaughter the elderly and disabled, even the animals. You mean like that? That's why you reject Islam? I'm guessing you don't see the relevance. You never do. You may be the best example I have seen in a long time of everything that's wrong with Christianity. Congratulations that's not an easy accomplishment but you have earned it so rejoice!

Every religious text has some questionable content in it, this is one of my favorites from the bible

It seems bias do deny the whole bible as evidence because "you believe" it's bias and not to at the very least consider the canonical gospels which are rooted in eye witness accounts. Conciousness could be your logical argument aswell, it cannot be measured or tested but we know it's very real through our experiences, much in the way we can experience the existence of god.

Explain to me how these professors became so skeptical on evolution. Do you really think your smarter than all these people.

"We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural
selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the
evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.”

I obviously am not alone.

Edit: I'm done discussing God. Less talk about ID.

Default Re: LPF's Religion

When we grow up we are led to believe that god is good, and the devil is bad. At least for the most part from what I can see. We are groomed to believe into a religion, and if we ask any question people seem to get very defensive.

I was raised catholic, but no longer consider myself this by any means. My thought is, if there is something out there. It doesn't matter what religion it says you are on a piece of paper, but what is within yourself. The church I went to for example was filled with rich, white business type. And as soon as they would leave church, they would immediately spread rumors and "sin".

So lets say we have a random person from that church. Then we have a homeless person who hasn't really "heard the word of god", but always was a kind human being. When they both die, who would go to "heaven"? The classy business person that went to church "because its a nice thing to do", or the homeless person who was not religious, but did his best to be the best person he can?

Going back to what I first said, we are led to believe god is good, and the devil is bad. But do people ask why the devil is bad? I find it pretty ignorant that when somebody believes into something so much, they won't even take the time to research or debate the topic. They immediately get very defensive and leave.

The reason ( at least what I read after looking into things a little more) Satan was banished to "hell" because Satan rebelled against God. Satan had a shitty job, and finally had enough, so rebelled against god. I don't know about you, but I would have done the same. You are basically sick of being a slave, so you rebel.

One last thing before I end this rant. I remember when I was in church once for easter, the priest was doing his homily. In the homily one of God's followers was insisting to kill his son for God, to show his loyalty to God. Sure makes it sound like a cult to me.

1. Is that all?, because it represents a small fraction of scientists, surely it isnt.

2. it's great to be skeptical of any claim. it's great to examine evidence. seeing as they are all scientists already, why have they not done this and falsified it?

3. appeals to authority are not a valid agruement, because a million people can be wrong, and a single person can be right. universal truth is not measured in mass appeal

well which is it, is it eyewitness accounts, or is all scripture "god breathed"? because it can't be both

we all know how reliable eyewitnesses are.

Eyewitness testimony - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yes eye witness accounts can be "God breathed." God inspired the people of what they should write.
The problem is when people like you and me try to judge God because we see things are "wrong" with the idea of him. I'm not sure if you experience this, but trying to understand fully general and special relativity to the extent Einstein did, is pretty hard, something I'll probably never grasp.
IMO, not believing in God gets a lot of people out of following his rules.

That's the point. The bible doesn't get revised, some "rules" that were made thousands of years ago are no longer relevant.

According to Leviticus I'm not allowed to wear shirts made out of more than one kind of cloth. I bet you've broken that one.

explain how a person can write an eyewitnees account of something they experienced while being told exactly what to write. think that would fly in court?

In words not my own -

Keep in mind that the bible is a collection of documents which came together through time - a long time. Within that collection there is literature which reflects diffenrent genres such as history, poetry, prophecy, apocalyptic, letters, etc. The writers weren't always interested in providing "spiritual" answers as in a devotional thought. They did, however, have a point to make about what they understood about the nature of God and the nature of humanity. Often the biggest problems we have with scripture results from our own assumptions about the nature of truth.

According to Leviticus I'm not allowed to wear shirts made out of more than one kind of cloth. I bet you've broken that one.
The reason that's okay, is because these were types and shadows of Christ to come. When he died on the cross, all the ceremonial laws ended.

You may say this is circle talk, but the reason it doesn't matter who wrote it and when, is because God over saw the end result.
