This is why I refuse to discuss religion, politics, and finances. It never seems to actually change any minds and is very revealing as to the beliefs of an individual often times with negative repercussions. A long time ago I made up my mind that it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and erase all doubt.

However, whenever a cult arises that seeks to imprint or display upon themselves things that are generally agreed on and found within the heart of people as obviously repulsive and/or satanically suggestive, people may report those found to the government. So the person who wants to wear his hat should do so in a private and not flamboyantly public way.
So should all religious people who want to spread their teachings; they should seek to be moderate in their expression of their belief; yet whenever someone asks them of what they hope in (or don't hope in, as in atheists), they should tell them straightforwardly.
Hope this lengthy paragraph helped!

Which government organization, exactly, should we be reporting this to?
What about in a place like the United States where the government itself has become satanic and repulsive, then what do you do?

Very articulate. There have been so many occasions that I have been sucked into a conversation where I have had to defend my "lack of faith", and these words and ideas would have been helpful. I have two brothers-in-law that are christian pastors , one lutheran and one episcopal. Family holidays are are fu(king terrible.

ps. Did you know that the REAL "reason for the season" is it's Jesus birthday, and not Saturnalia, or Yule, or the Winter Solstice?!

They guy that typed that out is a complete moron. Atheism is the lack of a belief in a deity. Beliefs on abiogenesis and the origins of the universe are a separate case.

Even if it were titled "abiogenesis and the origins of the universe," misrepresenting the argument and then attacking the misrepresentation isn't addressing the issue at all.

Well I am not the one that typed it, I just found it somewhere. I am well aware of the fact that atheism is the lack of a belief in a deity. I was under the impression though that atheists believe in the abiogenesis theory and not that life was created. Is this not correct? Don't atheists also believe the creation of the universe was some kind of natural event? If this is not correct I would like to hear comments on this from one or more atheists if we can have intelligent discussion and avoid insults.

They're not the same thing. One can have no belief in a deity, and still have no belief on the origins of the natural world.

DIFFERENT topic: do you agree with how your image describes these origins? Because if you do, you do not know what the big bang is, and you do not know what evolution is.

No belief on the origins of the natural world leaves open any possibility, including the possibility that something intelligent created it, however I understand the need for proof as opposed to just accepting a theory or an idea.

I do not see how my image describes the origin of anything. I am not convinced of the big bang because it doesn't go far enough, there is no explanation of how it came about in the first place but I don't rule out the possibility. I really don't believe we are advanced enough to determine how the universe came into existence. I am not saying that evolution doesn't happen but I don't believe the abiogenesis theory, so far it can't be proven or duplicated in a laboratory. Even the simplest single cell life is far too complex for it to just come into existence by chance, however if its proven I will rethink my beliefs.

Default Re: LPF's Religion

Being an atheist, I believe in the big bang theory. Why? Well, as of right now, its the one that matches a lot of what we know and can observe about our universe, and it is backed by a lot of the scientific community. How it began is unknown, and may never be known because it happened so long ago and was so chaotic that the information could simply be lost. But we can theorize, and try and find something that works.

And should a new theory arise that has more credibility and better fits the known data, I would happily accept it as the new likely cause of our universe.

As for how life formed, its a bit trickier to discern, but I'm personally more willing to accept that chemicals bonded and became more and more complex until what we call life formed then that some unknown and unproven deity did. That deity had to come from somewhere too you know.

I don't have any opinion/belief on how many vowels there are in the names of the average 34-year-old amputee mimes from Russia, but that doesn't mean there isn't an answer, and saying it could be ANYTHING is silly. Even though I don't know what the answer is, I am not going to accept "refried grapes and mummified sporks" as the truth.

The evidence points to a big bang. The full list of specifics is not fully understood, correct, but that's what makes science wonderful and fascinating.

Go shuffle a deck of cards and take note of the order the deck is now in. Do you know what the probability of obtaining THAT specific order of cards? The answer is one in 52 factorial. That is roughly an 8 followed by SIXTY SEVEN zeroes. Clearly that is SO unlikely that it couldn't have happened... yet you've just accomplished it with no effort at all.

I think this video has been posted here before, but it has become relevant again.

Don't atheists also believe the creation of the universe was some kind of natural event? If this is not correct I would like to hear comments on this from one or more atheists if we can have intelligent discussion and avoid insults.

Alan
As an atheist, I find abiogenesis to be the most likely way that life came into being, and that the formation of the universe as we know it was a natural event. That said, I don't discount the possibility that life on earth was not the result of abiogenesis, but rather contamination.

HOWEVER these beliefs are something I am willing to reevaluate based on credible evidence.

Additionally were I offered proof of a god like being, I would further ask for proof that said being cares at all about us, either collectively, or as individuals.

Question. Given what we now know, with reference to how big the universe is, and our minuscule size in it, why do all of the religious texts gloss over everything else out there?
