LED matrix?

I wanna make like a necklace lets say. So I would use a bunch of LED's and make a large square. How and what can I use to program it so if I press a button I can get music to play or different patterns to light up by using certain LED's.

it's not HARD per-se
but if you're trying to fit all of that in a necklace it'll be hard....mainly because you're gonna build it on your own (ergo, no 32nm chips for you )
you could try and get a universal PCB and use a pic controller....with the music......what kind of music? just tones? if it's the latter then you'll have to program it in assembler


and I HATE assembler
