I seldom dream about lasers these days, but when I first started working at that laser machine shop, boy did I have some dreams! Most of them were utter nightmares, where I'd be in the shop all alone, and it would be nearly pitch-dark. All the CO2 lasers were fired up, and there were "loose" beams bouncing around in the shop (bouncing off mirrors, apparently, because I never could see where the beam terminated, giving away its location), and I'd have to navigate my way across the dark shop without bumping into one of the 1-5KW beams! Which of course would be very hard to do (and not get torched), given that the CO2 wavelength is invisible.... I had nightmares about the YAG lasers too. Sometimes some of my co-workers would be in the dreams, can't remember anything specific, though. Other dreams I had about that place had to do with high voltage dangers...not surprising because some guy actually died on the shop floor (not when I was there) from coming into contact with a 40KV CO2 power supply.

I swear it's a wonder I have anything to do with lasers these days, after a year in that place!

Otherwise, once I dreamed that I took my 95mw (must have been a MEGAWATT in the dream!) CNI greenie outside and lit all the trees in my yard on fire! ;D

More recently, I had a laser-related dream (not specifically about a laser) where I figured out how to get my time tunnel machine working the way I wanted it to. I was having a lot of trouble (in real life) with the thing, and one night I dreamed I fixed whatever it was I was doing wrong (the angle of the mirror, among other things) - and the next day I did the same thing in real life and it worked! Just a little sub-conscious problem-solving.

There have been records of people using dreams to solve real-life problems. Scientist have been trying to find a way to let people know when they're dreaming, so they can use their subconscious resources to help them in the real world.

I have had two laser dreams.

The first one was where I found this AWESOME deal online on a laser kit from Dragonlasers, I think it was $200 for a 100mW green, a 200mW green, a 200mW red, and a 100mW blu-ray (or something like that), but I couldn't afford it! So my little brother walks up to me and shows me that he bought it, and I got down on my knees and begged to use it. He said I could, and walked away. We were at my school at the time, at dusk, and there were a lot of people from my school around. So I started shining the 200mW green into the sky, pointing it at the glowing clouds, and it was beautiful. Everyone was amazed, until suddenly someone snuck up behind me and surprised me, and I flailed and lased someone in the eye! I was panicking really really bad until I woke up, thinking it was real for a few seconds until a wave of relief finally hit me. (That happens to me quite a bit. The worst ones are when I am convinced that I said something REALLY terrible in public, and go on believing it throughout half of the day, scared of any social contact whatsoever...)

The second one was that my little brother (I have no idea why he keeps getting these lasers in my dreams; he doesn't even really seem to care that much about mine.) found a laser on the ground, and gave it to me because he didn't know what to do with it or how to use it. It was really scuffed up, but I looked it over and realized it was an RPL. I was thinking that it must be a valuable laser. I turned it on, and out comes...30mW of blue! I was amazed! I started going crazy about how valuable this must be and how lucky I am to have it, and I was using it nonstop. When I was finally going to take it home, and I was really happy...I woke up. But I didn't realize it. So the first thing I did was start searching and digging for my RPL, and about 30 seconds later, I figured it out, then let out a loud groan and rolled out of bed.

I've had two laser dreams: one regular dream and one laser nightmare!

The regular dream was way cool, but rather bizarre as well. It was a few months ago, but I still remember it.
I was shining the beam of a green laser around outside at night, looking at the beam. Then I took a rubberband to hold the button down. I put it on a table outside and walked along the beam to study the divergence. Then, I put my hand to the beam, just to notice that I met resistance from it, just like a rope of light! I was so excited, and touched it over and over again. Awesome! Later I got the brilliant idea to shine it up into the sky, so that a crazily long rope stretched into the sky. :D Then I started climbing the "rope". I had climbed for a long time, when I suddenly woke up. :( Dammit! I wanted to see what would happen!

The nightmare was rather short, but horrible. I was for some reason taken to a police station to be interrogated. They said I had robbed a jewelry store, but I was sure that I hadn't done that. I refused to accept that they would put me in jail for a crime I didn't commit. Then, to my horror, they tied me to a chair and one of the policemen took a RPL-style laser out of his pocket! I was so afraid of what he was going to do. He said "tell us the truth, or you will feel lots of pain." I still refused. He started to paint my neck black, and then shone the laser onto it for a long time. The pain was horrible. Then he opened my eyelid and shone it into my eye. "NO!" I saw a blinding flash of green light, and then woke up. I was shaking and sweating several minutes after I realised that it was a dream.

Cool that you mix together so many things in dreams. :p

I had a dream that I turned on my 5mW, and it burned through the walls, and pretty much went through anything it came in contact with. ;D I tried lighting matches, but it just blew straight through the match tops. Then I woke up. ;D

lol that is awesome! it probably would have ended like jack in the beanstalk if you kept climbing the rope lol. When I was reading, i thought, what would happen next was you're climbing and completely forgot about dutty cycles, then your laser rope either dims or completely shuts off and you fall.

So you actually felt pain in the dream? One of the times I remember feeling pain in a dream was when I was much much younger, probably 10 years old, and I was outside in a really dry rocky area, then everything starting getting hot and my vision was turning red, it almost felt like I was getting burnt, then somehow I click the Esc key on a keyboard and the Duke Nukem 3D menu was brought up in my dream. I then went down to exit, it asked "are you sure you want to exit? y or n" I clicked "y" and i imedietly woke up, haha.

I've also noticed with dreams that when you really look forward to getting something you dream that you have it. Before I got my phone I had countless dreams that it was right on my desk when I woke up, but then I woke up a second time in real life looking for it, soon I could tell if I was waking up in a dream or real life lol.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say - Jack and the Bean Stalk (or rather, laser pointer!) - but if you had gotten to the top you might just have found a very angry giant pointing a huge megawatt CO2 laser at you! ;D

Schrecken your dream sounds scary lol. At the laser shop you worked at how powerful were the lasers there? If you were to pass through the laser how bad would it hurt you?

---------

btw I had another laser dream last night:
I was trying fix my mode hoping green 150mW laser. Somehow I ended up pot moding it thinking that would fix it. I pot moded it to it's max, and it would emit the laser beam for a second and then suddenly there was a huge white light (more like a huge round dot) like it completely destroyed what I pointed it at, lol. Well that's really it, but I thought It'd share it anyway.

the rep was from someone on the forum with a red-ish picture (something I must have seen before but I dont remember now).

The comment said something along the lines of:

"Nice job Dick, you really really had to close that thread? Learn to grow up and stop ruining people's fun!  "

lol, apparently I closed a thread that many people were enjoying.

Red-ish as in:

I think i found the evil person that left the terrible rep in my dream...

I think it was Event Horizon

The most powerful they had was 8KW (1 laser, but usually it was ran at around 5KW), there were 2 5KWs, 4 with various powers ranging from 700W-2KW (all CO2 lasers), and 3 YAGs, 300W, 400W and 700W average power (all 3 operated in pulsed mode).

If you walked thru an unfocused beam, you'd probably get a nasty 3rd degree burn from the most powerful CO2 lasers; your clothing for sure would be ignited.  A focused beam would cut and slice; I don't recall if the beams were focused or not in my dream - not something you consider when you're scared out of your mind!  There actually was a guy who worked there (no wonder I had dreams like that considering the stories my co-workers told) who had a big belly and one day he was doing some sort of alignment on the 8KW (this was before I started there). The guy was near an open beam up on a ladder and I guess he forgot about his belly sticking out and leaned forward and got a bad burn on it! Bad enough he had to go to the hospital.
Then there was the guy (again, before I was there) who was working with the same laser and completely lost his finger tip! That laser was focused down to about a square centimeter in order to heat-treat metal.  Somehow, the guy got his fingertip in that focal point and it instantly vaporized flesh and bone, amputating the first joint of his finger.

'Course, there was also the guy who was dumb enough to try and work on the power supply of a 1KW CO2 laser while the laser was operating!  Needless to say, he took himself out of the gene pool for good. Again, didn't see it, wasn't there, but they said the jolt was so powerful the guy's shoes were blown off.  8KW of coherent light will burn the heck out of you, but 40KV of DC current will fry you....

Yes, that place was a serious breeding ground for laser nightmares!
