OK maybe they aren't really what you would call toys ;D

What you see here are two new 15kv 60ma neon sign transformers. Connected in parallel they should be able to provide 120ma @ 15,000 volts aka 1,800 watts of high voltage. They are extremely heavy and weigh something like 40 pounds each. They are current limited meaning that they can be left on shorted without overheating. My MOT overheats after like 10 seconds of arcing. I'm not entirely sure what I'll use them for atm and I'm open to any sane ideas and requests.

Yes, I know how absolutely deadly these things are.

if you put the spark gap in the focal point of a parabolic reflector grid and switch the thyratron at 2.4Ghz you might get a focused microwave (oven) gun. either that or a really long range WIFI jammer. hehe

You cant put NST's in series, since most of them have 2 windings, with the centre tap of those connected to ground. If your NSt has a centre tap that ISNT grounded (Like mine), you can try putting them in series, but like what was said above, the insulation(Usually tar, though some resin) probably wont like it and begin to break down.

Have fun! I was playin with my NST for aggessss after I got it !

This is why you cant put them in series. Some NST's have the centre tap as just another terminal, that isnt grounded. Heres a pic of mine for posting on another forum. The terminal with a ? is the centre tap, and as you can see its not connected to anything.

Wow thats a lot of energy!

If you have some argon sitting around you might get a cool effect if you blow it on the arc. might get longer arcs too! worth a try...

I used one like that, (transformer) to power a metal vapor helium cadmium laser that was just a three side pipe glass tube with diagonal end windows and cadmium melted on the middle side pipe with the electrodes in the other to side pipes, after helium is washed into the tubes for several seconds, the near vacuum is drawn as the final side tube is closed off, really pretty easy to do and result is a lot like an argon multiple wavelengths! Not sure if those power supplies would work for this, but you could always build a fusor......
