Ahhh! This has got to be the one thing thats driving me nuts!

Im at work and have spent about 3 weeks video editing which isnt the bad thing... that would be the fact that I am in a rather small department that only has 2 people in it, not including myself. I am 18 and they are both around about 45... It's driving me insane that neither of them have noticed that this crappy Magic Radio station playes the exact same thing every day at almost the exact time!! None of it is anything new either... im now at the stage where I am playing music through my earphones via my phone but of course I can only have it in one ear and at a volume so I can still hear people and the phone...

It's driving me insane! If anyone is around that age can you please explain to me why you want to hear the same 20 year olds song every single day!

Change is hard for men at any stage really. In the 40's we approach the mid-life crisis stage. We want to retain our youth, while trying to deal with the fact a lot of our dreams are gone. So listening to oldies brings us back to the good old days we don't want to forget, and stops us thinking about the dreams we lost. I almost fell into this, but I like younger girls. And younger girls listen to dance, and rap. So one needs to adapt. Some men are better at it than others.

Yeah I'm in touch with my crisis, but I still don't like it.

At the risk of sounding Zen, the only power that music has over your emotions is the power you give it.

Simply put: you don't have to dislike it.

Remember, the only thing that has kept humans as a species on top is our adaptability. Just learn to like it. If I got annoyed by the music the paralegals outside my office played all day, I'd be a miserable person (believe me, alternating rap and Christian rock are not my first musical choices), but I've learned to tune most of it out and genuinely enjoy the rest of it. I choose my battles; I could just tell them not to listen to music, have the office manager send out a policy memo, but it would be bad for morale.

You must bend, like the reed in the wind.
